Friendly people but not great customer service. 8/29/2007

Been going to the Outer Banks since 1966. Have rented from Joe Lamb for two years and agree the service could be better. I will give them credit for clean houses and good selections in all price ranges.
However, last year the air conditioning was not working correctly. I called them the second day and they said they would try to get someone out there. No one ever showed up.
This year, I called the day before to ask if we could have a late check out as we had no sleep the two nights before due to vandalism, which the manager knew about, as the police, owner and I had called him about the problem and the damage. I was put through to voice mail and was never called back. Now I know it was not there fault but would have liked a call back and a response.

This was our first time (August 2006) to use Joe Lamb Jr & Associates and we were very pleased. The check in process was very quick...staff very friendly. The beach home we rented from Joe Lamb exceeded our expectations. I had viewed the rooms of the beach house by virtual tour on the JoeLamb web site but once we entered the beach house we were very happy with our choice. The home was very clean and so well stocked. Pictures are deceiving. The home was so pretty ...much prettier in person and pictures do not do justice of the perfect ocean view we had while sitting on the front porch in rocking chairs! We will definately use Joe Lamb again and highly recommend using their services.

Used Joe Lamb Realty for a ocean front house rental (#012). Service was excellant, got in to the house several hours early, and house was just as described in literature. Also found rental to be prices very reasonable. Would definetly use Joe Lamb again!

Customer Service Issues 5/2/2006

The area "Outer Banks" is a wonderful place to vacation and we had a great time on the trip. The down side was the lack of customer focus from Joe Lamb's. From the time we placed the reservation, it was apparent that this team has not 100% involved with going above and beyond in order to assist their clients. Several weeks after we had sent in the initial deposit and signed contract, I had to contact Joe Lamb to confirm that the reservation was accepted. Finally 3 weeks prior to our arrival date, I received a copy of the confirmation in the mail and an e:mail that an additional luxury tax had been enforced (two months prior) and they had mis-calcuated the total tax due. At that point it was 20 days out from our trip and Joe Lamb was no longer accepting personal checks. The additional amount was 75 cents which I had to call and request that we pay the additional 75 cents upon arrival. When I contacted the office on another occasion (via e:mail) to inquire if a grill was at the house, I never received a response. Finally I called to inquire and was told that it did not, of course when we arrived we found 2 permanent installed grills were on-site (not sure how they missed those during their site visit).
When we arrived at the house, there were a few items (minor) that was wrong in the house but we wanted to enjoy our vacation and not whine or have workers in the house repairing items during our stay. Example: 1st level patio was covered in Sand (we were the 1st renters of the season). The deck furniture was old and some was broken, we found all new deck furniture in the garage that had not yet been set out. The water in the hot tub was clody and had only 2 of the 4 filters installed. A futon bed was missing a bolt so it folded up in the middle when in use. A few additional minor items were broken (blender, pocket doors went all the way back into the walls, screens missing off of the enclosed deck, one of dishwashers was not operating properly and one of the ice makers was frozen). Finally, the house had adversited a ping-pong table that was not anywhere in the house.
We will return to the Outer Banks next year but will try to use one of the other rental offices to find a team that has more customer focus then Joe Lamb. I am looking for a company that is concerned that we have a good time on vacation. Maybe send me a few brochures prior to arriving or provide a list of their own personal favorite things to do at the beach and of course fix the items that are wrong in the house prior to my arrival. I would have been more accepting of the issues that we encounted if they had just been up-front and noted the items that were missing or they had not gotten around too due to opening for the season. For example, we found out that the new deck furniture was in the garage because the decks were scheduled to be pressure washed the following week but we could bring them out if we needed to use them for the week.
It's those little personal touches that go along way when providing good customer service.

We have rented from Joe Lamb many times over the years. You won't go wrong with Joe Lamb, As far back as the late 70's and 80's we used them.

What a great company and people 6/1/2004

We have used several companies on the OBX to rent from but none have even come close to this company. They are very helpful and ready to do what they need to to make everyone's vacation better. They let us in a couple hours early, gave us a nice free gift at check-in, included tide charts, coupons, information and more. I could mention some of the "big boys" there that were not even close to being as friendly as Joe Lamb & Associates. I'll be back again next year.

Let us in our house early. Responded RIGHT away with questions prior to the trip as well as during the trip. All workers were very friendly. Would HIGHLY recommend them.
