Swan Cove Restaurant - Duck, Outer Banks Restaurant
|
This elegant establishment opened in 1995 and gained a reputation as one of the finer establishments in Duck. Unbelievable views are available from the soundfront dining room, where tablecloths and cut flowers grace each table and crystal glasses sparkle during sunset hours. Upstairs a separate lounge has a full bar with an extensive wine list. The menu changes daily and seasonally to incorporate new offerings. Swan Cove uses all local produce, seafood, and fresh herbs and specializes in low-fat, light cooking. Entrees may include duck, pastas, wild game, veal, baby back ribs, three kinds of Outer Banks fish, seafood bouillabaisse over saffron fettuccine, tenderloin steaks, and fresh salads.
A great bet for starters is shrimp stuffed with gouda, wrapped in bacon, and served with smoky barbecue sauce. And for dessert, try choosing between a chocolate layer cake, peanut butter pie, and seasonal fresh fruits drizzled with fabulous sauces. Swan Cove is open seven days a week in season. Call for off-season hours. There is a children's menu. Reservations are highly recommended.

My husband and I planned one evening to go out for a nice meal one evening on our vacation and we chose Swan Cove. The prices on the menu certainly make is seem like they want to be a fine dining restaurant, but the food did not live up to expectations. The veggies looked like they had been sitting out all day, the mashed potatoes where barely mashed and in general the food was only so-so. The view was lovely but the decor of the place looks more like a buffet restaurant. The staff was incredibly friendly and we did like our waiter. Lower the prices by about $10 an entree and it might be worth it.

Fantastic 11/10/2003

I've eaten here a few times, and it's a great place to get a fine meal. They serve some of the best seafood dishes (I've had) on the OBX, and that's saying a lot. Fantastic views of the sound improve on the otherwise institutional feel of the dining room decor.
