Butcher/meat market?

We will be in KDH in 2 weeks. Is there a place open to find a nice steak we can grill at home? Thanks!

RE: Butcher/meat market?

You beat me to it! I was going to post a note about a butcher/meat market as well. We are visiting Frisco arriving Good Friday and staying for the week. We are going non-traditional this year for Easter the overwhelming vote is steak (of course I'm a vegetarian). Would love to find some nice aged beef that can be cut on request. I was thinking Waves Market? Anything North will work too as long as they are open when we drive through.

Good suggestion. They're open until noon on Saturday so plan accordingly and call first. As a bonus you save $8 by exiting the expressway right before the toll.

We think Cahoons Market in Nags Head have good steaks.

In the 1970s and 80s, we hauled a cooler of produce and meat to Avon on every trip because the groceries available on Hatteras Island were a joke. The only thing we still have to bring are nice quality steaks.

I have always found Harris Teeter to have very high quality meats. I never been disappointed. They also have great variety and are very competitive. Their store in Kitty Hawk and Nags Head is open all year.

I don't eat beef so I don't have a personal recommendation but I know Coastal Provisions in Southern Shores carries cuts of beef. They have always looked fresh to me.

Best porterhouse I ever cooked (and ate) was from Fresh Market.

We go to Fresh Market for steaks when in OBX too. They have a nice meat department.

I also like Fresh Market meats. Very high quality and the cost is higher than average. Also check out their dessert selections at the bakery while you are there.

Thanks for the tips! We are staying in Nags Head for two days before heading down to Frisco later afternoon on Saturday so I'll check out Fresh Market and Harris Teeter.

We have been shopping at the KDH Harris Tetter since it opened. We have found their steaks to be so-so to outstanding. When shopping here pay very close attention to the sell dates.

If we are in the vicinity of Fresh Market we'll stop to visit their bakery offerings. The only meat we have bought from them was chicken from the the display case (not prepackaged) which was excellent. The folks behind the bakery and meat counters have always been very helpful.

I always get our steaks from the butcher at Harris Teeter and Fresh Market. As a shopper, I always check the dates and pick from the back and underneath.

We ended up getting 8 thick cut ribeyes from Conner's. They did an outstanding job cutting them. The steaks were terrific. Perfectly marbled with great flavor. The family gave thumbs up all around!

Ditto on Connors for meat. Also, check out the deli. The best reuben sandwich was made hot and fresh while we shopped. The daily deli specials are are real treat.

Mmmm I dream of Conner's Deli when I'm not there. Giant, delicious sandwiches!
