Elizabeth City

RE: Elizabeth City

Thank you BradZ for laying EC out in real terms. It's great information and hopefully people won't look at EC negatively because of it. I'll have to visit some time.

I started writing about where I grew up and now live and the comparisons, but decided to remove it as it would probably derail the thread.

The bottom line is, visit and judge for yourself. You'll know if it the right place for you.

RE: Elizabeth City

I lived & worked on the Outer Banks but not anymore. Some of my most beloved co-workers resided in Elizabeth City & stayed on the beach for their work week. I drove them to their abode at night, after work in the wee hours. They arrived on the Outer Banks by carpooling or bus.

These are the hard working honest people whom you would like to hope represent EC. There is a crime element there, a gang thing, and high unemployment. Check out the schools!

My wasbands home office is/was located there, we had all sorts of work functions to attend there, driving up there every week was not a big deal. I know people at KDH who have their business in EC & drive there all the time. I birthed my child there. But I would not want to live there if the Outer Banks is my ultimate desire.

Those using code words to describe Elizabeth City should come right out and say it. It’s all approved by the Supreme Leader

MikeW - if you are referring to my post, I resent it and strongly disagree with you bringing your hate and bias here. I recognize you are not a happy person here in 2018, but I will not stand for your crap. Proudly flagged and reported your post. Good luck and be as well, or as miserable, as you choose.

As for my comments regarding EC, to all others: accept them or reject them as you see fit. It is my opinion that it is a nice place to visit but you wouldnt want to live there (maybe outside town, and C&H Oyster Bar is great!) and quality of life is important to know about where you may choose to live.

Perhaps you can explain what more "urban" means? Why the quotation marks? It's a pretty damn shrill dog whistle.

and to think, all of this 'what ever you want to call it' started over a post asking what do you think about moving/living in EC

Thank you everyone for your input. We are exploring the Moyock area as well, that area seems to be a very good fit for us. We weren't planning to move into the middle of EC, perhaps on the outskirts or even Camden. Thank you for providing some inside perspective.

RE: Elizabeth City

Sounds like some people in this thread need a vacation! Banana

RE: Elizabeth City

Might want to look a little farther inland. Greenville , NC It has a major university, good shopping, a verity of job possibility . It 2 1/2 hrs for Kill Devil Hill. I lived there once and found it a great town . WIth the university there are lots options for sports, culture, and night life. One reality of OBX living is that it's not very close to anything !!!

RE: Elizabeth City

It's close to the ocean!

Actually it moved back a good bit with the nourishment last summer. It's holding up well in Kitty with some nice new dunes and beach out there.

Good luck! I am sure that you will find what is best for you and your family! Moyock continues to build out after being stagnant for a while. I have friends that live there and say the schools are great. Chesapeake and the rest of Hampton Roads, VA is close by and you are just less than an hour from crossing the bridge into Dare County and the Outer Banks. There are many of us that can relate. We met on this very message board and many of us live here now. Susi and I have been here just over 10 years. We love it. My greatest challenge was in the first summer...coming to grips that I wasn't on vacation every day and needed to go to work.

RE: Elizabeth City

Simply my definition of near would only be Mid to Lower Currituck County (good home values and schools) or Dare Mainland (where there is nothing but bears and swamps). I don't consider being over an Hour away, near. Maybe I've been spoiled but a drive of more than a Half hour to spend the day on the beach is too much. It's either Outer Banks or Elsewhere, Wherever! Too many parameters being thrown in for the nearness to the Outer Banks. If you can work here, no need to look anyplace else. You have the great schools, plenty of youth activities, adequate shopping, cultural activities, extensive water sports, every denomination church, decent medical care, volunteer activities. What else do you need. I guess a job. Enough said from me. Over and Out!

RE: Elizabeth City

Don't forget to look into Manteo. Great little town on Roanoke island.

RE: Elizabeth City

I lived in Elizabeth City years ago. My in laws have lived there for 25 years. Lets just say when we stay on the Outer Banks my in laws come to us instead of us driving to them. We have visited them a few times over the past few years and I can definitely say it's not an area I would run to move back to.

Good luck with your search!!!!!

RE: Elizabeth City

I have a beautiful 1 acre lot across the street from the Albemarle Sound in Edenton I will sell you on county club drive beautiful town for sure we bought house in KDH so we have decided to sell it

RE: Elizabeth City

Research them all. I'd personally choose Currituck, even over Dare. Camden would be another good choice. Like someone else said, be happy to give more in depth reason. Just message.
