Car Rental

I need to take my car in for repair before warranty runs out. Where is the closest place to rent a car? Any local recommendations for repair shop? We are in SNH and would prefer to not have to go to the mainland. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

RE: Car Rental

If it is a dealer and a warranty repair they might have a rental there.
Otherwise check your insurance and see if you have rental coverage
Enterprise is in KDH

RE: Car Rental

RD Sawyer Ford in Manteo has a rental car side business. As previously stated, Enterprise in KDH is about the only other rental car choice. RD Sawyer works on all makes/models and we've had pretty good luck there with a car we bought there. Pughs Car Care in Nags Head is decent too. I seem to recall someone said Soundside Automotive just across the the WMB was very good.

Agree with Alexy, call the dealer. They probably have a free loaner car, or can connect you with a rental.

For what it's worth, they have rental cars available at Dare Co Regional Airport in Manteo. I've rented cars from them on multiple occasions. I think it is actually a local dealer who provides the car and it was $50/day and parked right in the airport lot.

I wish they had those there when I used to fly in to MQI. I was toying with the idea of getting a clunker and just parking it there but looked into the insurance and scrapped that idea. Then I looked for someone that had a clunker parked there and offered to drive it to charge the battery and put gas in it but found no takers. There were maybe 10-15 cars parked there for pilots when they flew in. Their pockets were deeper than mine. Plane

I have found that Soundside Auto, just over the bridge into Currituck, does a great job on most repairs

I had the same issue down here in Frisco and ended up buying a beater Grand Cherokee with a solar panel in the dash. It was cheap enough that it only raised my insurance rates $100 a year. I'd love to split the costs on a car with other folks, but it seems like everyone flies in at the same time.

RE: Car Rental

We have a long time renter for our house that flies in and almost got killed doing the airfield commute.
His wife and girls came down days prior and he flew down to Billy Mitchell and was biking back to the house when a drunk driver hit him in 2005. He was flown to Va Beach and spent 14 months in rehab and therapy, I think it took even longer to get his flight status back since he was the owner of a crop dusting service.

Don't get me started on the walk from the airport. When we first started making the trips, we would push the stroller and walk the dog along Route 12. Chr!st-o-mighty no one gives you any room to walk, if they notice you at all. Mind you the distance from the Airport Road to Runboat Circle is only 3/10 of a mile, it always scared the bleep out of me. Nowadays I take my chances and take "the back way" and bring the car around to pick up the family.

It would be really nice if Dare County could build bike lanes along Route 12 through Buxton and Frisco. I can't seem to find out if that's in the plans any time soon or not.

RE: Car Rental

Thanks everyone. It is a cadillac. In Ohio the GM dealer takes it to the cadillac dealer. I have decided to just get an oil change and lube job as I had some work done before I came down that may be related to the noise we are hearing. Sounds like a bushing. Since it doesn't affect the way it drives, I will wait until I get home. I thought it was covered by my extended warranty but we just went over the mileage. Just my luck. Buying a clunker to keep down here isn't a bad idea. The sand and salt are worse than the Ohio winters. I have an old car at home that may be coming down next year.

RE: Car Rental

For oil changes, state inspections, and brakes Treadquarters in Manteo has given me good service. I've heard others say not so good for them. The 15-30-45-60K services and any mechanical issues go to the dealer.

RE: Car Rental

The local GM Dealer is > OBX Chevrolet/Buick....Might be worth a call..

Good Luck!

I got the opposite reaction/impression!

In 2009 the fuel pump went out on my 2006 Chrysler right after we arrived in KDH. Setos said they had never seen anything like the rust and corrosion underneath my van. Gotta love Ohio winters!
