Crab question

Crab question

This may sound kinda dumb, but can you catch any crabs in winter? We are going the week after next for a few days and my hubby and son want to bring crab traps. I'm just curious to see if they could actually catch anything. Figured I would post here instead of main forum, you all may be gentler in your responses. Wink smiley

RE: Crab question

At least for the area from Corolla to Oregon Inlet the simple answer is no crabs. Crabs actually burrow in mud and become somewhat dormant in the cold water. You also have to understand our winter has been colder than the average. The Sound(s) were frozen all the way across in January. All the commercial guys pull their pots in the Winter. Although not around here commercially crabs can be "Dredged" in the Winter.

RE: Crab question

Thanks! That's kinda what I figured, but at least now I can "suggest" that we don't need to drag all the crabbing stuff with us. smiley

On the beach, too!!! Odo and Toodledip were VERY disappointed that their crab friends weren't around. Ninety percent of Odo's time was trying to say hello to his crab friends.
