RE: Fishing in Early April

A lot depends on Water Temps. I don't fish down that way. Up above Oregon Inlet there will be a few Skates, maybe a Doggie and if the water gets into the low 50's (wishful thinking) there might be some Blowfish. If anything will happen at that time of the year it will be on the Southern beaches. Actually, below Buxton will be even better because of the geographical facing direction of the beach. At Buxton the beach turns to the SW and waters are definitely warmer than the East facing beaches. Now if you had a chance to take a ride to Ocracoke you might have almost guaranteed action. I'm sure someone will comment with specific firsthand info.

As always, Pickle is spot on. Water temps are everything. With that said, April can be a good month for Blues, Red Drum and Blowtoads. In Avon you cannot go wrong with checking our Frank and Fran's Bait and Tackle. They are under new ownership but seem to be really good folks. They will certainly be in the know.

Last year the big blue fish were there.

Early April can be a great time for drum depending on water temps and winds. Last year, there were lots of sharks around the point. We snagged into one better than six feet long that took over an hour to get in. Couldn't put it on the table to eat, but sure has made for some great stories.

Spring comes a little earlier below the Cape Point because the water temperatures are warmer. If the fishing's slow (or all dogfish) in Avon, check out Frisco and Hatteras Village .
