Wife's uncle passed away; bough in Corolla 1988

My wife's uncle passed away on Wednesday afternoon at the age of 87. They bought in Corolla Light in early 1988. The house was built in 1987, and they were the second owners, oddly enough. My wife's aunt told me that the house was unfurnished when they bought it.

My wife and I went to their house in the summer of 1990 for our honeymoon. Just thinking back to 1990 and how there was very little in Corolla back then.

Sorry for your loss. He was a pioneer. I wonder how many homes were in Corolla even in 1990. It must bring back memories and maybe a few tears when you visit up there now. A friend and former wrestling coach of mine moved to Corolla in 1974 or a bit earlier. At that time the paved road ended at Sanderling. He owns a popular restaurant in Grandy now and lives in Poplar Branch. He actually built some of the first homes there so you can imagine what it was like back then. We were up in Carova, and of course, driving through Corolla this past weekend and it was deserted, however, homes as far as the eye could see. The Harris Teeter had 4 cars there at 10 on Saturday. Peace and Comfort to you, your wife and family.

Thanks. Gil's memorial service was yesterday.

If you haven't seen them, here are some pictures taken in 1990, and the same pictures taken in 2010: http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44118.

Also, here's Corolla Chapel in 1990:

I like this one, too. Here's from the lighthouse looking towards Whalehead Club, 1990. That pool was filled in within a few years.

Thank you, beautiful memories. Take care.
