RE: Special Delivery

Wow. Sure would be handy to know what is in those containers.

RE: Special Delivery

Do they float?

RE: Special Delivery

Doritos. .... One year on vacations we had Doritos and 2 liter bottles of Pepsi washing ashore.

RE: Special Delivery

My mistake. The picture I saw posted by the Village Craftsman was not from the current spill. Sorry.... I wonder what was in the containers?????

RE: Special Delivery

Couldn't find it, but there is a past post about containers washing up with bags and bags of snacks...maybe Ocracoke? Might be what Belle was saying?

RE: Special Delivery

Oh, they'll wash up, and to the finder goes the spoils. Salvage booty and Bounty!

RE: Special Delivery

That Doritos spill was from over 10 years ago.
Unless the same happened again.

Happened all over again, apparently 70 containers went overboard. We have no idea what's inside of them. For all we know they were loaded up with truck axles and are sitting on the bottom. Doritos would be cool; maybe several cases of decent beer.

RE: Special Delivery

^^ yes, I realize that cargo fell off a freighter, or whatever. I sincerely doubt it’s Doritos again unless the OBX is in a shipping lane for Doritos.

RE: Special Delivery

What geniuses decided to ship out on the high seas during this storm?!? If it’s sailing out of ORF you’d think...nevermind

RE: Special Delivery

Luckily it happened now, in early March. Do you realize the implications if this were late Spring or Summer? The danger to the many Charter and Commercial Fishermen going Offshore would be phenomenal. It wouldn't be the first time a boat hit a cargo container floating just under the surface. Fiberglass and wood is no match for Steel, especially at 25 knots. There could be over 50 boats on any given day. I hope all of those containers sunk! Now if I only knew the exact location, what a "Wreck" that would make! Black Sea Bass, yum, yumm! The water 17 miles out is only a 100 feet deep or less.

RE: Special Delivery

The cargo ship Maersk Shanghai departed the port of Norfolk on 3/3 with a destination of Charleston, SC. Tracking shows them sitting off the coast of SC right now. I wonder if the containers were empty. I work for a global 3PL and you would be surprised how many containers fall off these monster ships every year.

If they were empty containers they will probably sink faster then if filled with buoyant product.

RE: Special Delivery

It's strange that the cargo ship Shanghi is sitting right off the coast of Corolla as I write this and unusually close to shore for that size ship. Not to mention the giant swells it must be experiencing.

RE: Special Delivery

I just read on Pilot Online that the CG is searching for the containers, and has located 4 of them 10 to 14 miles off shore and 50 miles from the site. The containers can be seen 4 to 5 ft above the surface. One of the containers contained 6,000 lbs of sulfuric acid in barrels.

RE: Special Delivery

Oh, please find that one! Confused

That captain should lose his license and be fined for such irresponsible action.
