Frisco in March

Frisco in March

Wow....What a start to my sixth year at Osprey Landing in March!! Being able to get here Saturday looked a little doubtful on Friday, but luck was with me......not a wet spot on the road all the way from the Bonner south to Frisco. That all changed with high tide Saturday night! Avon and Pea Island were hit hard, and there was even over wash in Buxton at the usual place. Sunday has always been a laid back day anyway, getting unpacked and settled in, so I didn't feel too bad about not leaving the house except for a quick trip to Conner's late this afternoon. Thankfully I'm here for three weeks, so I'm hoping to have a lot of adventures and pictures to share with you all.

This is a shot of Osprey Landing from last year when the skies were a little bluer than today.

This is the walkway to the sound side beach at Osprey Landing. I love the patterns the wind has sculpted in the sand.

RE: Frisco in March

I was actually thinking of you earlier..wondering if you were there and picturing your car parked on the little bridge. Glad you arrived safely. Cant wait to see all your beautiful pictures!

RE: Frisco in March

Glad to see you back again and see all the beautiful pictures you always post. We have stayed at O.L. for several years when Bobby owed it but we got a camper a couple of years back and have went to other places on the island. Hopefully if all plays out we will be back down in a couple of weeks while our Daughter is out on spring break. Hope you have a fun and enjoyable time again.

Thanks, nicki. Had the Mini on the bridge for a short while today. The water from the sound started to come up but backed off pretty quickly. Better safe than sorry after seeing those vehicles at Pea Island!

Thanks wills670.....this is a special place for me. I used to be an "ocean front" person, but after a couple of stays here I became a sound side convert....Lol!!

RE: Frisco in March

Good for you, Nancy - 3 weeks!!

Quite relieved to know the waters didn't rise as high at the bridge with your beloved MINI Countryman. Rainbow

P.S. Very cool shot of the walkway and the sand patterns. Looking forward to all of your photographs!

Wonderful to see you back in Frisco. Hope the winds become mild and the temps make your adventuring comfortable. Looking forward to seeing your beautiful photography. Have a great getaway. Thanks for posting. Star Camera Star

Beautiful pictures! So nice that you get such a nice long trip there. Stay dry and post pics when you can!

RE: Frisco in March

Wow, 3 weeks in Frisco. Lucky you....I'm so jealous. We'll be there in 52 days. Hopefully it will be dryer by then!!! Enjoy your stay - I know you will. Looking forward to all your great pictures.

RE: Frisco in March

Enjoy the stay. Things are waking up. Will be down Friday. A few places are doing soft openings starting March 15th so you might get to check out new items if you go out to eat.

RE: Frisco in March

Glad you are back for your March visit. I love reading your report, seeing your beautiful photos, and learning about the southern beaches. Hope your stay is wonderful!

Hey, obxmini and thanks for your comment! The Mini is still dry. Haven't had to worry about getting it wet because we haven't been anywhere except to Conner's and to the lighthouse beach. Hopefully that will change before too long!

It's wonderful to be back, tilly. I was just telling my sister today that when I walked back in the door here Saturday, it felt like I'd just been on an errand and was coming home.......of course it was a very long errand but still........

Hey Julia.....good to hear from you. Maybe one of these days we'll be here at the same time and I'll buy your lunch. Here's hoping those 52 days till you're here fly by and the time you are here goes very slowly!!

Alexy

Thanks, Alexy. That's good to hear. I usually do lunch out more often than dinner, but I do want to try Hatteras Sol before I leave. I see their menu every day on Facebook and drool. Is the Point still open? I've not seen them open since since I've been here which is unusual, but could be due to the weather.

Thanks seabreeze. Glad I'm back too! And thank you for your kind comments. I know how much I enjoy reading everybody else's reports, so I'll try to return the favor. As for the pictures, that's my favorite pastime and this is my favorite place to take them!

RE: Frisco in March

What a difference a matter of hours can make in the weather! Woke up to blue skies and wind that wasn't nearly as bad as yesterday. The house is no longer shaking and creaking. Hard to believe that things seem so normal in my little piece of heaven when just a few miles up the road, they are as bad as they are.

After breakfast, I took a walk along the sound behind the house. The wind was chilly, but bearable. No real finds except for a beautiful piece of wood covered in barnacles which I will take home with me.

Another shot from yesterday of the sand patterns at the end of the walkway from the house to the sound.

Stopped at Diamond Shoals for a late lunch, but we got there at 2:30 to find they had closed at 2:00, so we went to Conner's and picked up a couple of sandwiches and sodas and headed to the lighthouse for a picnic. It's still a tad cold for that, but we soldiered through and went to the lighthouse beach to check out the ocean, which is still pretty angry! I've never seen the parking lot as empty as it was.

I guess I'm not as up on my lighthouse history as I thought I was because I don't know what this is. I was here in October of last year and this wasn't there. Did Riley uncover it?

After leaving the beach, I dropped my sister off at the house before driving into Hatteras Village. I went as far as Lee Robinson's and only saw a little standing water just before Durant's Station. Came back to the house and enjoyed some crockpot chicken after attempting a few sunset shots that didn't pan out. We don't really have any plans for tomorrow......or the rest of our time here. We'll just enjoy our sister time together and play it by ear. Catch y'all later!

RE: Frisco in March

I was told that’s the foundation of the old fencing around the lighthouse when it was at the old location. Hurricane Maria uncovered it end of last September while I was there. I loved seeing it! It covered right back up after the storm passed. I saw someone else post pics of it yesterday on fb. I think it’s beautiful!

RE: Frisco in March

The point looked like it was doing some remodeling weekend before last when we were down.

The point is open, however...the sand is ULTRA soft I would not recommend going out there for a few days. I know they closed up due to the storm.
I think Hatteras Sol might be doing lunch brunch but I'm not too sure either way.I know Chris and Christy ( the owners and cooks) have had to shut down because most of the staff lives in Avon and couldn't get through the water and salt mess to get in so I would just call and see what is up. the restaurants number is 252-986-1414

Btw they have a pimento cheese cheeseburger that is awesome. I know everyone wants seafood but I got to say it is good.

I think she was referring to the Point Restaurant, across from the lighthouse road entrance. When I was there a couple weeks ago it looked like they were open, but they were also doing some work on place it seemed. My expirence has been that The Point can be hit or miss, probably dependent on whether the owner is in or not.

RE: Frisco in March

Ahhh,
I gave up on that place after Hurricane Heathers.

RE: Frisco in March

Nehall!!!!!!!! I love when you’re there! Although probably not as much as you do right?!?!? Love your stories, your pics, your perspective and the mini too!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing!

That is spot on! I so agree. Nehall lives just a skooch down the road from me, yet when she visits our town and take pictures, its like I am seeing our town from an entirely new perspective. Same thing with Frisco - We will be there in just a few weeks, but I can never seem to see it with exactly the same eyes she does. BUT after several years of following her March visits, I certainly have more to look for! Its like my vacation goes from 1 week to 4 - three weeks living vicariously through Nehall and then finally the week we actually go. Thanks Nehall!!
