Thank you so much for taking the time to post this whole magazine article!! Absolutely wonderful, chief1530.

RE: Albatross Fleet

Thanks! We fished with Captain Ernie a few years ago and had a blast. Even better to catch fish on a part of history.

RE: Albatross Fleet

That sure is one pretty boat! I really like the graceful stern shape.

Called 'Chunk built', using wedge shaped wood pieces. Very forgiving in a following sea.

Cool, that must be a local boat building term. I worked in the boating industry through college and built and rebuilt a few boats and have never heard that term before.

Very popular with the Ches bay Deadrise builders, especially the area around Deltaville VA. Lost art, very time consuming as most of the pieces were cut and fit by hand. Another boat with a sleek stern were the Draketails, pretty sure Google will find some examples.

Yes, I did Google Chunk Built and found images but could not find any written information. Learn something new everyday!

My early boat building experience has helped my tremendously in the aircraft building business for the past 39 years. The lofting and terminology is either the same or very similar. Older aircraft drawings have "waterlines" as one of the geometric dimensions.

I was walking along the docks last Saturday and made the comment that the Albatross boats were still the cleanest, whitest, best kept boats in the Outer Banks. They are just beautiful. I heard that Capt. Ernie very rarely fishes anymore but all his boats have a good captain and stay busy.
