Directions from Pittsburgh

I have directions that are very detailed from Pittsburgh to Kitty Hawk. Does someone have simple directions that go through Cumberland, Paw Paw and toward Winchester. Then Warrenton, Opal, 95, 295,64, 664, 168 And 158. These people have never driven there before.

We go the turnpike, 70, 522, 37, 81, 66, 17 (warrenton/opal are off 17). Avoiding the turnpike you could take 79 down to 68 and that goes through Cumberland. Not sure where Paw Paw is, but I'm sure from Cumberland you could cut across to 522.

This is an option to stay off of the major interstates in VA. It goes through Cumberland and Paw Paw:

You have a near 100% chance of getting stuck in traffic somewhere taking 95 and 64.

RE: Directions from Pittsburgh

Hi Carol, we take this route every time to Ocracoke and some family also lives in NOVA so another reason the route is often taken.

I79
I68
51 (right, at Cumberland towards Paw Paw)
9/29
127 (left)
522 (right)
37 (left onto 37!)
I81 (right, west or southwest direction, I guess)
50 (Winchester)
17 (right, towards Delaplane)
I66 (east)
17 (17 turns into 66 east, just follow the signs)
I95

It seems a bit much but it is the best way from Pittsburgh unless traveling at night and if you don’t mind a stretch where you might lose cell connectivity.

There is a left turn onto 37 in Virginia to get to I81. It’s a counterintuitive direction but the fastest way to I81. Lots of traffic as you near I95 unless early morning. Do not speed in Paw Paw. You will get a ticket. Speed slows down and they really enforce it.

I hope this helps.

This is how we always go as we can't stand the turnpike and want to avoid the DC area. It does seem a bit convoluted (and may be what you have) but it really isn't. I cannot stress enough to watch the speed on 522 through Berkley Springs. It drops quickly and they love to nail people.
