Offshore Charter Split

I am heading in for vacation to Kitty Hawk July 20th-August 3rd. I have two (maybe 3) people wanting to do an offshore charter. Looking to see if anybody is interested in splitting one.
Thanks

RE: Offshore Charter Split

May I offer some friendly advice.... when they commit to the trip, get the money up front. I had three co-workers to back out at the last minute and I got stuck with the whole bill. Never again...lesson learned the hard way.

RE: Offshore Charter Split

Good call. I didn’t think about that. Thanks for the advice!

RE: Offshore Charter Split

Let me shed some light on Make-up Charters. As a Charter Boat Owner I've received numerous requests for Make -up Charters. My first comment is that they are much harder to put together than most people realize. There are a lot of variables to consider, the biggest of which day selection and flexibility in days. Then there is pricing (including tips and fish cleaning costs), less than a full (6 person) party, possibly trip type. The major Outer Banks Marinas (OIFC, Pirates Cove, OBX Marina, Wanchese Marina) along with those in Hatteras all offer Make-ups. However, no Make-up is ever a sure thing. You are trying to put one together yourself. Okay have you booked a boat (bad thing) or do you know exactly what it will cost? What if you only have 4 or 5 people, is everybody willing to pay more than a 6 person price? Unless you have a specific boat in mind, since you have the flexibility of a two week time period I would just have a marina put together a trip for you. However, understand that at Marinas these trips come together at the last minute, you might only get 24 hours notice of a trip. Please understand that no charterboat reserves days for Make-ups, they are used as fill ins. Availability of boats at the marinas changes from day to day and you won't know a boat till you go. Now if you charter a boat outright and try and make it work that's dangerous. Most people that do make -ups are either singles, two's maybe three but rarely 4. What if you don't get your 6 and you are committed to your boat, will everybody pay an extra $100 or more? Leave it to a Marina and it will work. Good Fishing

We will be there, July 28th to the 4th. We have two possible three that are interested. Have you looked into a charter, or what kind of fishing you want to do? Do you have a price?

RE: Offshore Charter Split

It looks like a charter is in the making, If Adamho and Maryn can get together, Maybe. Right it looks like you have 4 people definite. Depending on Marina or Boat your basic Offshore Cost with be from $1750 to $2000. These are the "Northern Fleets" not Hatteras That translates to $300 to $350 per person based on 6. That's without a customary Mates Gratuity and Fish Cleaning Costs. Based on 6 people that price could approach $400 per person or more. If split on 4 ways it gets very expensive. Have you looked into a boat and is it available in your time frame. If you want to wait for two more people it may not be open. Unless you're okay with a 4 person charter, Why would you not let a Marina do the booking for you. As many of you know, I own a Charter boat. We have dates available in the week of July 29th and our price is $300 Based on 6 people. However, I personally do not take the time and effort to put trips together. If I can help you send me a PM. Good Luck

Maryn, I sent you a private message with the details. I have not heard back from you, so you may not have gotten it.
We are wanting to do an offshore charter. I want to keep from getting anymore than two parties, so since we both have two (maybe 3) people, it makes the most sense to split it.
The costs are typically around $2000. This does not include tip (15-20%) and cleaning fees. The total would be roughly $2500. So it would be around $1250. In order to ensure we are both committed, I would like to have us both submit a deposit to the captain or marina for $500.
I left my phone number in the private message. Let me know if you are still interested. Thanks
