Saturday and Sunday
We had a Sunday check in this year. I love Sunday check ins. You don’t have much traffic and it just feels like you have an extra day. We actually left Saturday afternoon and stayed over in Virginia Beach. It was between there or Elizabeth City. Why? Because the hotels are close to a Bojangles’. I have to have Bo’s when I come down. I did a lot of research to find these hotels. We went with VB because it had the bonus of having a Krispy Kreme by it also. We made good time Saturday, got Bo’s and went to sleep.
We got up Sunday morning and headed out. We stopped at KK and got 2 dozen donuts and we also had to stop at the outlets because my son forgot sneakers. Not a big deal on the beach, but he wanted to play some basketball while there. While they were getting the shoes, I scarfed down several donuts. I knew I had to get some now because they might not make it to the house with my son holding them.
Before we even get to the bridge we get a text that the house is ready. This was at 11am! Wow. We’re still a hour or two away, but it’s nice knowing we can go right in. Midgett doesn’t have early check in, but I called and asked if they could get us in early because we were going to be in the area. I turned on my sweet talking skills and it seems to have worked. It could have also just been the first house they cleaned, but no, we’re going to say my charm won them over…
We cross the Bonner and marvel at the new bridge. It towers over the Bonner. They’re also making good progress on it. Once we cross the bridge it just feels like a different world. Vacation starts now. We make good time going through the tri-villages, but right before Avon get stuck behind someone who obviously has a problem with their speedometer. They’re doing 10-15 under the posted speed limit. It’s a long line of car in front of me, so no way to pass. No worries, we’re getting close. The slowpoke turns into Buxton and we’re all allowed to do the speed limit again. We arrive at the house around 12:30pm.
After fiddling with the digital lock we finally get in the house. I run up stairs and out on the deck. Glorious! It’s exactly what a wanted and needed. Don’t really care about what the house looked like. I’ll be spending most of my time on the beach or on this deck.
We unpack the car and settle in. I grab a beer and retreat to the deck. Ahhh. The wind is really blowing and the kite boarders are enjoying it. We take a walk on the beach, find a few shells, get our feet wet, find a turtle nest, and head back to the house.
We ate at Dinky’s Sunday night. It was OK, but not great. The shrimp was over cooked and the rest was just average. Was expecting better. Maybe just an off night. We stopped at the Red & White and picked up some supplies. They just renovated the place and it looks great. Has most everything you’ll need at Hatteras Village.
Back to the house to relax and turn in. There were storms that night, but I didn’t hear them. Sleep like a baby with the sound of the waves.
