At the KDH / Nags Head town line.

Is that the site of the old Ships Wheel diner?? They had a great breakfast there. Did they also buy the property across the street? We stayed at the Sea Watch for many summers. Thanks

I'll have to add that to my list of areas I don't rent oceanfront near. It's funny how you peruse available houses on sites and inevitably find a great house still available, then realize, oh, it's next ( hotel/motel name here) or next to a sizable beach access parking lot.

I so wish we could rent a house but it's just my husband and I and it's usually just a long weekend here and there (we live in Raleigh so the drive isn't bad). So these hotels, and lately AirBnb's are our only options to go back to the place we love for vacations! I get you, as we used to go every summer with our families and rent a big house, but don't forget us couples that are looking for smaller accomidations! ;)

It is and they did, but I think the plans now are not to develop the Oceanside with a restaurant and pool as they once had planned to do. I did not realize how BIG they place is going to be until today.

Tim, the oceanfront development plans might be back on. After putting the two oceanfront parcels up for sale, with the Realtor saying the developer decided to reduce the project’s investment, the parcels now are off the market and the engineers working at the site confirm oceanfront will be part of the mix. This TownePlace Suites will have its own beach access, so the nearby public access will not need to be used by hotel customers. We enjoyed the Ship’s Wheel but the dilapidated Ebb Tide Motel had become an eyesore and a feral cat shelter. The new Marriott will be a nice, well landscaped property, and a restaurant on the beach will be a welcome local amenity.

How big is it compared to the four stories houses being built on the oceanfront? Overall, it is a good for the outer banks. So called paradise. Frog Laughing smiley ...

RE: The Marriott being built

The Ships Wheel had the best pancakes on the beach!

RE: The Marriott being built

You got that right , I ate there many times . Sad to see it gone and replaced by that structure .The area is not suited for that dropped in the middle of it!!

It does seem awfully big, but hotel rooms are needed on the OBX. We were there for a few days last week and had great trouble finding a hotel room. Prices were very, very high for what was available. I had searched most other beaches in NC & SC, and found that prices were much cheaper. Must be, of course, supply and demand.
