Beaches in Buxton

Beaches in Buxton

Hi all-we are looking at home in Buxton for our 2019 vacation. Can you let me know with all of the hurricanes/tropical storms and nor'easters have they eroded the beaches? The house is in the Old Lighthouse Rd area. Thanks in advance for your help!

RE: Beaches in Buxton

We live in Buxton on Cottage Ave (one of the roads that dead ends into the beach off of Old Lighthouse Road). Presently the shore break is 100 yards off shore, and we are guessing that is where all our "Beach Nourishment" presently resides. As far as we are concerned the jury is still out on the effectiveness of BN. That being said, we can't predict what the beach will look like from one week to the next, never mind predicting what it will look like 9 months from now.

There are likely more learned opinions available to you, i encourage you to seek them out. Consider our advice as strictly anecdotal.

I can't attest to how wide the beach is there as it's been a few years since we stayed in that area; I definitely defer to riggs on that one.
When we were on the island last year we checked out a house that we stayed in previously on N. Tower Circle to see if it was still with the same agency. What may be worth knowing though is that the streets in that area are in some rough shape. Certainly passable but have a real off road feel that may take you off guard if you're not expecting it. This happens to be my husband's favorite area to date.

The beaches were pretty good this last June, but as riggs said it can vary day to day. This was our 3rd year in Buxton and we love it. But a word of warning on the streets, they are in really rough shape and N. Tower Circle does hold water when it rains. Personally, we love it there. It's not over built or overly developed with shops and it has some good restaurants nearby.

Isn’t there some talk about a parking area and an access boardwalk being put there?

Yes there is

This is from a month ago, from South Tower Circle to Ocean Drive. Surf was up a bit that afternoon, but this should give you an idea of what the beaches look like.
