Holiday Cards?

Holiday Cards?

Curious how many of y'all still send actual holiday cards this time o' year - the paper kind? It's been a longstanding tradition for us but the incoming ones diminish each year. The inernet "cards" to me are very impersonal, not to mention the photo-copied braggarts - "We got Jimmy his first car - a BMW convertable", "Sally is the new CEO for her company", etc. It may be interesting news but pretty much the only time i hear from them all year. Waddyfook?

Mailed our first batch yesterday, a bit behind schedule.

If you're offended by this missive, please pardon the Cantankerous Ol' Fart...

RE: Holiday Cards?

i enjoy the funny "what we've been up to" as opposed to the so & so is a grad student at Brown, we went to Little Cayman 5 times & blah, blah, blah. Basically a picture i can add to the collection is nice, and when those whoppers of braggin come along i do save them for posterity.

That said, my uncle who has been ex-communicated from the family still sends out the same pic card of him in front of his fireplace, updated each year. A psychologist would have a field day with those pearls...

RE: Holiday Cards?

I used to and was even part of a hockey message board at the time where we sent cards to each other. It was neat to get cards from all over the US and Canada. Then Facebook came along, my city lost their hockey team and money became tight. I stopped sending Christmas cards about 4 years ago. I stopped sending return Christmas cards (you sent me a card, so I sent you a card) about 3 years ago. We still get cards from his side of the family (basically a vessel to give us pictures of our nephews and niece) and a few of my friends that still do it. And yes, they are Christmas cards.

RE: Holiday Cards?

As it pertains to extending, or physically taking the time to wish friends and family best holiday wishes in their own hand, it's nice to see some folks carry on Christmas Traditions...Remember, tis better to give than receive, not tit for tat...Merry Christmas MM, and too us all Big grin

I still send them but not nearly as many as I used to. I just finished a note to go into one for some Australian friends. I've already received theirs so I hope it'll arrive in time.

RE: Holiday Cards?

Sent out a pile this year. First time in a long time. But I do enjoy the online cards too. Have several friends that we send stuff back and forth regularly.

RE: Holiday Cards?

I loved sending Christmas cards, but with the price of stamps these days ..... no more mass mailings.

RE: Holiday Cards?

I send Christmas cards, but the number was greatly reduced this year. Open envelope

RE: Holiday Cards?

Banana Never have sent holiday cards. We always send Christmas cards,55 this year. We also wish every one a, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

RE: Holiday Cards?

I also send out Christmas cards each year. Some years I even make all of them. But not this year... its store-bought this time.
And my list has been shortened greatly.

RE: Holiday Cards?

I still send Christmas cards every year. I enjoy it. And after a years worth of e-mails and texts, I think its nice to get some snail mail with a hand-written greeting.

RE: Holiday Cards?

I send Christmas cards ever year, Still sending to girls I went to school with and thats over 30 years, I have cut down some but still love to send just wouldn't be Christmas without the cards in the mailbox.

RE: Holiday Cards?

I too still send Christmas cards. Hubby and I took our two dogs and had Christmas pics done Laughing smiley because the kids are too busy with work, son in law travels too much and grandkids hate taking the time for family pics so I gave up trying to get everyone together...now it's me, hubby and the two "girls".

RE: Holiday Cards?

....just mailed our CHRISTmas cards yesterday....we still have certain people that we like to keep up with and let them know that we are thinking about them this time of year....really don't send them to relatives...........

RE: Holiday Cards?

I love sending and receiving Christmas cards.. I mailed 60 this year.

RE: Holiday Cards?

I send cards every year. There's something about opening up a neat Christmas card. Plus it adds to my decorations! I always hang them on my door! Usually send out about 18-20, but strangely the number went up to about 40 this year........ -)

RE: Holiday Cards?

I'll be the first one to admit that I am very very Christmas Challenged. I've never sent out cards, though we did as a familyw when I was growing up. For awhile after we were married, we got lots of cards...then less and less every year...when you don't send them...well...you know....But ever since joining this board, the nicest thing has happened....I get cards again! From the nicest people. My trips to the mailbox have been quite pleasant this year. Thank you for keeping me on your lists(s)....I sure don't deserve it!!! In love

RE: Holiday Cards?

We sent out 45 this year. We did a 3 photo compilation of our 17 month old daughter with Merry Christmas and Happy New Year on it.

We also use cards we receive to decorate and I just commented to obxyinzer how we only have 14 so far. The fireplace in the dining room looks naked. She says there are still 5 more mailing days, but we are only half way to what we usually receive. Hope we get them it just doesn't look like Christmas yet.

RE: Holiday Cards?

My list is greatly shortened too. I enjoy sending them/receiving them but everything is just so expensive any more, I can understand why so many have given this tradition up. For the most part, the photocopied letters just feel like bragging to me, especially if I've kept up with them all year. I already know everything that's going to be said in the letter. I have noticed, those letters have shrunk in size and content over the years...

RE: Holiday Cards?

Yes, but only to those who send them back.
