Ok, we had another highlight I didnt mention in my just back trip report but my wife said she was proud and I should post it...While heading to get our keys sat am, we noticed a vehicle swerving from lane to lane and than into the uncomming lanes on the bypass near the Wright Brothers Memorial. The vehicle almost had 2 head on collisions. He finally stopped at a light and I got out an approached his vehicle (my vehicle looks like a police SUV as I have Dark Blue GMC Envoy with redlights on top, well PD in NY as our PD and FD Chiefs run redlights unlike blue in NC)...I wanted to check to see if he was having a medical incident or if he was intoxicated, I did not believe someone could be this intoxicated at 9:15am as I tapped his window he gave me a deer in headlights look and his eyes were all glassy...The light changed and he took off again, into uncoming traffic I dialed Dare 911 as he turned onto Pinehurst Avenue across some lawns and missed the turn at the end of the street and came to stop on a front lawn partially in the street, I put on my overhead lights and blocked him from proceeding. a few minutes later Kill Devil Hills Officer Drummond pulled up as well as other back up units, he told me they had started to get allot more calls and were trying to catch up to this vehicle..They thanked me, I wrote up a statement the driver was arrested and we continued on to get our keys....

Can't say that was the smartest move, but you were well within your right to stop that person and make a citizens arrest under NC law. Good job keeping him from harming others.

GREAT FOR YOU. Thumbs up
Maybe if more people would treat DWI as a crime rather than a sport there would be less billboards remembering dead people up and down the beach.

My Daughter, SIL and Grandson went into Oceanas Bistro for breakfast about 930 a couple of days ago. Two guys at the bar working hard at getting plastered. They overheard one saying he was a middle school principal. "What I did on my Summer Vacation...."

Thank you for doing that! Scary that someone would get drunk like that and drive around when so many people are out and about. You no doubt prevented senseless tragedy from happening.

It was about thirteen years ago when Melissa Marvin was driving drunk at 2:50 in the afternoon in Kill Devil Hills, and killed four young women. You can still see the white crosses at the intersection of Ocean Bay Blvd and the Bypass.

This sort of thing should be a capital offense. Absolutely no excuse.

When I was in Iceland, first offense was impoundment of your car. Second offense, you lost your license FOREVER. You'd see lines of Taxis going all the way around the block at bar closing time. Folks took it seriously.

Just curious, and not to start a big argument, but what tags where on his vehicle? If it was north of NC, I'll mumble "damn yankees". If it was NC or south, I'll mumble "damn rednecks".

That was a brave and noble action taken to stop another drunk driver (however) I pose a curious, serious question here. How many people here who have responded to this thread and the people reading this thread and the people who will READ this thread have driven their vehicle since getting their driver's license who have driven their vehicle after drinking 3 or more beers or cocktails in their driving career? Be honest. I for one have done so before such time was known that it was a dangerous action. I'm not proud to admit it but I did it, that was a long time ago.

Great job getting that guy off the road! What a way to start your trip!

Drunk and impaired driving seems to be one of those crimes that are getting worse instead of better. And I tell you what frightens me: Ive been a manager at a national truck stop for well over 8 years now. And you would be amazed, AMAZED at how many semi-drivers are right beside you on the interstate, drunk. Last year there was a DUI checkpoint at our exit. State troopers along with ODOT authorities. 17 out of 62 semi-drivers were drunk. Another 9 were arrested for pot and other drugs. I hear the drivers conversation's when they are in the building. Talking about the synthetic urine's they use to pass drug tests, the 'best' roads to drink on, etc etc. We also have a CB in the building so we can hear them in the lot. (It helps us be aware of other illict activities) We listen to them call out to each other..who's got what for sale. Its an eyeopener. The standard fully loaded semi trailer's legal weight is 80,000 lbs. Thats a whole lot of damage...I do my best to keep a safe distance from them now. And I am NOT bashing ALL drivers..but it is a fact.
