Kitty Hawk post card, amazing!

I found this postcard while looking through the North Carolina post card site. It is an amazing post card. First of all, you can't get this view now, there are houses and there are trees. This is looking down on Moore Shore Road in Kitty Hawk which was just a sand road and, at that time, was the soundside road that went from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head. It looks to be from the 40's.

Below is the link to the website. If you magnify it you can see the Wright Bros. Mem. in the background on the left side.
This ridge is still there. If you go up Tateway and hang a right into the cul de sac you will see a high dune. It is private property now. Formerly, the road ran completely along the sound. But in the late 80's houses got built at the junction of Bay Drive and Tateway. So that is why you can't get this view now. But remnants of this road exist in the form of the Wright Bros. KH bike path, Bay Drive, etc. all the way to Nags Head if you don't mind taking a lot of back streets. Not a car project. More like a bike project.

Here is a link to the map of roads in 1936. As you can see, it ran the length of the sound and included the woods road in Nags Head Woods.

Wow. Really cool !! The monument was relatively new back then. And in the center of the picture, in the background. What is that object ?? Almost looks like a water tower. but seems to be over open water. ???

I went to the site and used their magnification. It seems to be oblong and irregular shaped. The land you see in the middle ground is a series of marsh islands and behind that is Colington. There was not much at all on Colington at that time. Maybe someone who was around then could tell us what that was. UFO, blimp, giant jumping mullet, or really a water tower. It was probably war-time or slightly after so it might have been something related to that.

Amazing to me, since my dad shot slide from almost same place in 1955. He and I also shot dozens of pix and videos just to the north as the area was slowly demolished.

Will try again to include photo that dad took in '55. Seems to be no water tower in shot, so I think your post card may be from after '55.

I absolutely love seeing the OBX the way they used to be... Thank you!
