HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

In case you missed Season 1 of HGTV's Beachfront Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks, Season 2 premiers this Wednesday, New Year's Day at 2:30p.m! On this episode, they will show three Outer Banks homes on the sound to a couple and they will pick the one they like best. Sort of like House Hunters. It will air at other times and dates through January and February. The realtor (Wende) who sold me my beach condo is the featured realtor. Enjoy!

My search showed this:

SHOW DESCRIPTION

A family searches for a second home on Alabama's Gulf Coast.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

What time? 2:30pm? I think there are multiple episodes on starting New Year's Day.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

I checked it again on a different website and you are correct. Something about high school sweethearts buying a house here. I'll record it. Thanks

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

Did anybody catch the address of the house they bought on Roanoke island?

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

It was not on Roanoke island it was in Newberns Landing on the Currituck mainland. They bought it in 2012. They wrote the offer in Jan 2012 but did not close until June of 2012, so it's been in the can a long time. How those buyers think they have a beach rental surprises me since it is closer to Grandy than here.

139 Newbern Landing Road

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

Thank you, Dayton_u. I really enjoyed the show.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

OK thanks.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

I actually saw the condo that Wende helped my wife and me buy back in 2011. You could see it in the distance several times when the camera was on Jennettes Pier looking south Wink smiley

I love watching these types of shows, especially when they are in the Outer Banks Wink smiley

Their VRBO listing says its a 10 minute drive
VRBO #408228

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

The house looks beautiful.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

It was a nice house they chose. Personally, I would of chose the first house.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

As a local resident, I really thought the show and/or realtor really didn't inform the couple about the possibility of renting their home and the many other waterfront property options. Probably price was an issue or the people just wanted to see water, no matter where. Maybe not beach people? Nice show but there would have been lot more "Good Things" to see or be told about buying on the Outer Banks.

I have friends that live on River Beach Rd., the next road north of this cottage. If you can drive to the Kitty Hawk Beaches in ten minutes, then you have some kind of super charged vehicle. It is not too far from the Cotton Gin. Beautiful home even though not really an Outer Banks rental to me.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

Good show but disappointing. All those views of the Atlantic Ocean and the couple purchases a property on the mainland! People have trouble walking 300 feet to the ocean from oceanfront property. Can't see this property doing well as a rental but as a vacation home, it has good points.

I hope the realtor fully informed them. If I rented this thinking it was on the OBX I would be very disappointed. From some of the comments on VRBO it seems this is at times an issue.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

The show from last season she showed a single woman several oceanfront condo's. Maybe in this episode the couple wanted a house and at the pricepoint they wanted, the options were more limited. I know last season Wende told me she showed the woman five units but they could only put three on the TV show. Maybe they showed this couple a bunch of homes and they just happened to like the one outside the OBX the best.

Maybe next season they will do show based more to the south like in Hatteras or Rodanthe or perhaps more north like Duck or Corolla.

I have to think the producers did some editing and they did not show everything as it was actually happening. Next time I speak to Gary (listing agent on the house they bought) or Wende I will ask. I have been showing homes for 25 years and no one opens the door and tells buyers to go in and look around!! I heard of one agent that did this while he sat outside and smoked, but it was his first buyer and he was green as new grass and no longer is in the business (wonder why). I wonder if they came back and recreated the experience months later for the camera. That's my guess.

Update:

As I thought, there is tv deception going on here. I just went looking on the MLS for the Harbour View house they looked at and guess what, it is under contract now and has only been listed since July 2013. They lowered the price to $299k in Aug 2013. These people bought there house in June 2012 so it looks to me like this is all staged to a big degree. It certainly is not "as it was happening". Typical reality tv. BTW, that house is now listed at $219k.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

They did one of those HGTV house hunting shows near here (in Cocoa, Fl.) a few years ago. That show was done after the home was already purchased. The homes that they looked at were on the market, but just shown for the drama.

I have also noticed that on most of these shows they tell the folks to go in and look around, in the five times I have bought a house, I have never had that experience.

RE: HGTV Bargain Hunt featuring the Outer Banks

I have to admit I like House Hunters and some other shows on HGTV but this one not so much. No offense to the couple buying the house but they were pretty bad actors. I was obvious that things were very staged. I have never seen one of these shows that came off so awkwardly. I also don't get the whole go in and look around thing, makes no sense. We were watching this yesterday and my husband changed the channel when he realized they were not going to show any beachfront properties. It is called Beachfront bargain smiley
