Nags Head flooded today

Nags Head flooded today

What a mess! Here is Kitty Hawk we had a little sprinkle of rain this morning, but Nags Head got slammed with 4 inches in an hour. The beach road around Jockeys Ridge and around the Village Beach Club were totally covered in rain water. I had to go to SNH and luckily I went the bypass, but they had a north bound lane closed because it had water on it near Hollowell St. Some cleaners are saying they can't get to some homes to clean them. What a mess.

I remember 4-5 years ago on the Saturday we arrived NH and Manteo got 5-6 inches of rain in about 2 hours. We were renting a place west of the beach rd, their was no way the cleaners and the new renters were getting in the homes on the beach road. The homes are up high enough but the driveway ends at the street which is basically a ditch. Some places had 3-4 feet

Thanks for the info Tim. My cottage is on the beach road at Hollowell St.

Just had some roof work done, I hope it held up.

I bet I have water in the storage area under the house.

Sad smiley

I know where your house is, it might not have gotten over to you there. I am not sure how high you are at the house, the green garage might not have been so lucky. Good luck ! It's raining again today, but not a badly. Cloud

Thanks Tim.

We've got two big ocean-outfall storm drains in that area. One at Conch street and one at Curlew street, You would think the drainage would be better

The flooding at our place near Memorial and Bonnet was almost as bad as during Matthew. Must have been a lot of rain real fast.

RE: Nags Head flooded today

Have you heard how south Nags Head, off Old Oregon Inlet road, is? Our house is close to mile post 17.5 the national park property is behind the houses on the west side and I think the vegetation there sometimes helps absorb some of the water when we have these downpours. This sounds like a deluge!

RE: Nags Head flooded today

If you are on the west side you should be ok. The area around Dare and Ciltvaria (where water always accumulates) was flooded and the east side of the road was too. I didn't go any farther south but I didn't see much on the west side.

Thanks Tim! The town has worked on some drainage issues down that way, but when it rains so much, it just takes time.

RE: Nags Head flooded today

It poured in Southern Shores for a good 3 hours. This rain can be so hit or miss.

RE: Nags Head flooded today

How long did it take for the water to recede? I just saw this video from the area right near our cottage. Thinking I may need to take a trip to do some cleanup.

We had a foot of water under the house after Matthew and people are saying this was similar.

RE: Nags Head flooded today

I just drove through Nags Head about an hour ago and there is still lots of standing water. It is mostly confined to the ditches and low areas. Roads are dry, as are most places up under homes. I also drove through that downpour last Sunday and all I can say is WOW!
