Anyone know what's coming to Colington Rd?

They are clearing the site across the street from Colington Pizza. It is zoned "Village Commercial". Anyone have any idea what's coming in?

Can't remember where I read it, but it's 10 more houses.

RE: Anyone know what's coming to Colington Rd?

I think the lot is less than 2 acres.... just purchased at the beginning of this year by COLINGWOOD INVESTMENTS LLC... not familiar with them at all... guess we'll have to wait and see! smiley with shades

Isn't Colingwood that tip of Colington that flooded from Irene? I can recall seeing it in the tax files years ago.

RE: Anyone know what's coming to Colington Rd?

Colingwood Investments has the same mailing address as Dream Builders Construction. I think their plan is to buy vacant lots and build spec homes.

Bummer... it kinda looks like the entire site is being graded for a parking lot... but too soon to say...

My somewhat faulty memory seems to recall advertising and site surveyed to build houses just before the bottom fell out of the real estate market here after we bought in 2004. Weeds took over after that until the recent site work.

I have no idea what the plans are now.

For all the years we have been on Hatteras, I can't say I have ever ventured into Colington. Reading the crime reports within the IFP, it appears that Colington has been very well represented for quite a few months.

Is it the area in general, or maybe one rogue scumbag who the authorities have yet to snag?

Not trying to hijack the thread...just curious.

Ridge, was thinking the same thing. A police kiosk or sub-precinct on part of that property would help in that petty crime area. Data doesn't lie.

That's what I tend to think too Maslin... we've been here for 4 years now, in 2 different homes and have never had any troubles (nor our neighbors). Can't say it's the same for every neighborhood, but that's what makes me think you're right. Local kids isolated to their neighborhood(s).

RE: Anyone know what's coming to Colington Rd?

OH.... and I did see a site plan today... looks like it's going to be 10 (yes 10) small homes. On a 2 acre lot. Should be GREAT! Serious smiley

I wouldn't be real excited about the firearms that were stolen Thumbs down

Not.. but I don't blame the kids on that... I blame the car/gun owners for leaving them in an unlocked car. 95% of all auto break ins in the county were with the vehicle unlocked. Irresponsible on the owners IMO.

You are joking, right? Blaming the victims for the criminal behavior by "kids?!"
There's a reason they call it Crackington.
And, agree with locking everything up and even bringing in the deck chairs

I've never had a firearm stolen... but I've never left a firearm in an unlocked vehicle. Call it Crackington all you want.. but I think if you spent a week in our neighborhood(s) you'd sing a different song. I've not locked my car our house doors in 4 years (except on vaca). Not sure why everyone bags Colington... Have never heard a complaint by anyone that actually lives here. Whatever. We digress... back to point.. there's 10 mini houses going in across from Colington Pizza. blah. Beer

RE: Anyone know what's coming to Colington Rd?

After I posted, I thought some would take offense and think that I was calling out the community. Not my intent...sorry. I was honestly curious about the large number of listings in the IFP.

I hope the community enjoys whatever is built on the vacant lot...have a great day all!

I agree with hatterasnc. You can't be serious. You're not blaming the thief for going into private property and stealing something? You're blaming the victim? Confused Wow, just wow.

10 houses on a 2 acre lot? That seems a little tight...

Having lived in the Haabaa for almost 15 years I occasionally hear derogatory comments about it. We haven't experienced any YET. The mischief I've heard about is mostly juvenile antics from children of those in the vicinity of the gate. Evictions or foreclosures usually move those families on to other pastures.

If anyone thinks the Haabaa has the OBX exclusive on drugs or theft they are sadly mistaken.

PS - My understanding is Wanchese is OBX's gateway for drugs and friends tell me hallowed Manteo has its fair share of drug activity.
