Drum Run

Drum Run

Looking to try to catch the Drum run this year. When do they normally start hitting strong? Which areas are the hottest? I have too much vacation time on the books and need to burn some up. Thanks.

Frank Folb used to swear by the month of November at the Point for fall fishing. A southwest wind there is your best bet.

If you want some early action Jeannette's pier in Nags Head is seeing some action now with these swells rolling in.I lost a horse of a red drum there Saturday and seen a few more decked in the two hours I was there. Peak in Nags Head last year was mid October. The Point probably November.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to get down in mid Oct. and will be staying in Manteo. I'll try Jeannette' or the public access close to it.

RE: Drum Run

I'll be in Hatteras Village October 6-14 & then in Ocracoke October 19-29 so my guess the big bite will be 15-18!!! Good luck

By all means, bring your trout rod with you since the big drum may be hit or miss but the trout should be available if the wind and water clarity cooperate.

I'm also going to hit Oregon Inlet Marina to see if the rockfish are still hanging by the boats. I couldn't believe how many we saw there during our Sept. trip. The mate was throwing chunks of fish off of the boat and the Rock were attacking it like piranhas.
