Got this idea from Facebook where they were challenging people to post black & white photos for 7 days and challenging others each day.

Instead of doing that I thought it would be interesting to have people at random post some of their great pics in black & white. They don't have to be OBX shots.

So I will start it off.

Not a popular shot with folks, but this is one of my personal favorites. Shot it with an iPhone on the dash a few years ago. Bonner Bridge...

Just curious Blue Fish....why do you say "not a popular shot with folks"?

Maybe I should say "not as popular." It's been posted in a few galleries along with other photos of mine and it's always on the low-end of positive comments compared to the others.

I like the shot. Maybe it's the border? I'm thinking I'd like it better without, but I'd have to see it.

2002 in Hatteras Island with my first digital camera (Canon G2). I don't really have an eye for B&W.

This great blue heron hangs out at the dock right up the street and I can't resist snapping a few pics every time I pass by.

Thanks John.

Yeah, most of the comments end up a critique of the use of effects. There are many purists out there that believe presenting anything other than what comes out of the camera as trickery and fake. The use of effects on photography for me is like makeup on a woman. Some need more than others, a few need none at all, but most look better with at least a little. Anyway... this use of effects was my attempt to create the feeling I had that day. It was late in the season - about like now - the temps were cooler, the days were getting shorter, it was quite a grey day - not much color in real life. And it was lonely. Me on the bridge and this one car going the other way. When I went black and white, added the pencil effect, and rounded it out with a vignette, it made me feel what I felt that day crossing the bridge.
