RE: Snowed in!

Mia liked it for about 5 seconds.

RE: Snowed in!

That's a lot of snow! How many inches? We only got a bout 8 here and it's still snowing that lovely lake effect stuff.

I was living in Erie in 1993 and actually working in State College when the storm of the century hit. I think it dropped something like 35 inches of snow on State College over night. I looked out my hotel room window the next morning and the snow was so deep in the parking lot the cars were just little bumps in the snow. It was unreal.

When I got up we were at 53 inches. They said to expect more but it's been barely snowing since I got up.

I probably have video of that storm. My grandparents took video of a huge storm in the early 90s, but it'd be Edinboro, not Erie or State College. I was only 10 or 11 so I don't remember the specifics. Probably just excited to get a day off school if that happened ;)

RE: Snowed in!

rpemers I think it's interesting you've lived in two of the same areas as my dad and grandparents. You didn't work for GTE too did you? LOL They were actually in Muskegon and then Edinboro, but that's pretty close.

RE: Snowed in!

53! WOW!

I've had around 40 in MA, but never over 50.

RE: Snowed in!

I have The Weather Channel on, and Erie was just mentioned. Also just saw it on CNN online.

RE: Snowed in!

TWC just said that Erie set a 2-day state record: 54.5".

RE: Snowed in!

We are feeling it! Alan spent all day out there cleaning off the cars and trying to get a path cleared to the garage to get the trash can back in (they didn't pick up last night, for good reason)

They keep saying we're going to get more soon, but it's not currently snowing here and I'd say we've picked up just an inch today, not the 6-8 they were calling for. Hopefully it's over soon, people have to start getting back to work after the holiday.

RE: Snowed in!

You just made the WAVY 10 news too. No snow here in KDH though. Good luck with the snow. I grew up in Greenville PA but never had anywhere even close to that much.

RE: Snowed in!

You guys kept it all up there! Just north of Pittsburgh we had just enough to have a white Christmas.

It's all lake effect, you guys shouldn't see any of it. My brother and his wife live in West View and drove up to Edinboro for Christmas, and then drove home from Crawford County in the evening. They said it was a really treacherous drive up Christmas morning but only from Meadville on north.

That's crazy that we were on WAVY news too!

53 inches has to be a record. No, I was a regional manager for one of Northwest Airlines regional carriers and was in State College to start up service to Detroit. Needless to say we were delayed Theeth smiley

Ha ha I bet! That had to be a really cool job though. I absolutely love aviation, even if I'm way too afraid to fly.

RE: Snowed in!

They have us over 60 inches now, a lot of businesses are still closed today, including the office my husband works in. I was sort of hoping he was going to take all this junk food into work for the office vultures but alas, today I just have to commit to willpower.

You know- it was a lot of fun for a young single guy. Lots of travel and always something interesting happening at the airport. I was never bored with my job but the hours I put in were unbelievable. After 18 years and the Gov't takeover of the security checkpoints It was time leave and find something a little different.

RE: Snowed in!

Wow! Glad you guys are OK; you're the only people I "know" in Erie, so I've been thinking about you!

We haven't left the property since Christmas Eve! Well ok I went down the street to drop off some cookies to a friend/neighbor, but before winter officially started I went to Aldi and made a snowstorm stash of extra of everything we normally buy, and it definitely came in handy! Husband's work will be open again tomorrow, as will most of the businesses. I'm sort of ready to get back to my routine, although going to the store tomorrow will be less than fun since it's going to be bitter cold. Amelia is still in a car seat, they can't wear puffy coats in car seats, so I have to bundle her up, take her coat off, put her in the car seat, and do the whole thing in reverse at the store.

RE: Snowed in!

Sorry Junepath, I know that much snow at once must be a real drag. We got around 50" of snow from 2 blizzards, 5 days apart in 2010 and we ran out of places to pile it up. We could not get out of our neighborhood until a farmer with a massive snow blower on his tractor cleared a path out to the main road. It pays to be prepared sometimes, so we just try to keep the pantry stocked and make the best of an unplanned 'staycation'.

RE: Snowed in!

Fortunately all the cities and towns around the lake know how to handle the snow. I spent the holiday just north in the Mayville/Chautauqua Ridge area. Usually this area gets the snow like you did in Erie but only about 3 feet fell this time. By the time I drove to Jamestown, the roads were bare. With sub zero temperatures forecasted for the next week and a warm lake, who know what it will be like by this weekend.

We just got another Winter Storm Watch forecasting 12-18 inches Friday into Saturday Crying smiley Crying smiley Crying smiley

RE: Snowed in!

Snow melts. At least you don't have to deal with hurricanes.

Hows the snow removal going? Are you able to get around yet? That's a lot of snow even for Erie. We can deal with snow here and a couple of feet of the white stuff won't even cause me to be late for work but 5+ feet is another story.

We're going to get more tonight into tomorrow but here in Holland maybe 4-6 inches. 20 miles north over a foot is expected.

We need more pictures of your epic snow smiley
