Saw this on the OBX facebook page...

Someone posted this on the Outer Banks North Carolina Facebook page...I had a good laugh over it...

"Coming to OBX this summer for the first time. My husband is freaking out we have never did a home rental. Are there any cleaning services that will come in make beds wipe surfaces and do life cleaning every day or every other day while we are there? He needs his hotel like amenities LOL"

This guy must be a pleasure to be married to.

The comments on that post are much nicer than I expected. They need to just get a hotel.

Well for someone who has never rented a vacation home I can see the logic behind the question. And I think some agencies do offer mid week cleanings. I for one wouldnt complain about being married to the guy..least it sounds like he would like for him and his wife to be on vacation from domestic duties, which is what I hate most about my vacation time as well!

RE: Saw this on the OBX facebook page...

a friend of mine who has rented my beach house several times and was staying in Duck last summer asked me the same thing... not for him, but for his wife, who doesn't particularly care for the sun or the beach but grins and bears it for the family. (my friend and his two teenage kids LOVE the beach...). anyhow to make the stay more tolerable for the wife, who is very nice but a bit OCD, he wanted to hire someone to clean the place daily otherwise he was sure she'd spend all her time do exactly that, in which case vacation would be just like staying home for her... he really just wanted her to have a vacation too, which is kind of sweet. i put him in touch with the woman who prepares welcome baskets for my renters and inspects the (sometimes iffy) job done by the Southern Shores cleaning crew during the summer. She sent her daughter over to help out, and I'm sure my friend paid her double or triple the crap wages she earned working for Southern Shores. So everybody wins...

Tell him to contact his local USMC recruiter for a foolproof way to guarantee a squared away cottage.

My initial reaction was "are you kidding me?" but the more I think about it I can be too harsh. If all of your vacations and business travel have been to hotels or resorts that is all you know. It will take a week in the Outer Banks to show him while the lack of maid service might be a negative in his opinion the positives that he wasn't aware of will win him over.

I have not made a bed during my weeks on Hatteras except for the day I leave. Don't expect I ever will and don't want anybody to do it for me. Just Sayin. LOL

I wouldn't complain about being married to the guy if his need for hotel like amenities meant he did the work to keep the place fastidious. I would not be happy is he wanted to spend significant money on daily cleaning service, though I would be less happy if he wanted to pay a cleaner poverty wages to do it.

The couple in question would probably be much happier in a hotel, and if they really wanted to cook, they could rent one of the suites with kitchenettes.
