DC Eagle Cam 2018

DC Eagle Cam 2018

It’s time again for “Mr. President” and “The First Lady” to prepare their nest for the season at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington DC. Thanks to 2018 American Eagle Foundation, EAGLES.ORG. Hope those of you that enjoy watching the nesting season enjoy all this site offers.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

I'll have to add them to my list. Currently watching the Harmar Eagle cam, just outside of Pittsburgh.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Thanks for the post/reminder of the cam, tilly. I’ve been known to become addicted to this. In a good way. Theeth smiley

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

The streaming has been having cam technical issues the last few days so I’ve spent time reading the Event Log to catch up on the nest activity. The moderators do an excellent job documenting the goings-on. Mr. P and TFL have worked hard bringing and weaving big and small sticks, fluff, moss and leaves to form high rails and a soft bowl for the nesting season. The nest has been visited by squirrels (one that’s albino) and a young sub-adult eagle. Raccoon and Red Shouldered Hawk have been seen in the nest tree area. Through all the busy nest architecture there has been bonding and mating and the eagle eye of the parents protecting the nest in eggspectation. New upgrades are being done on the cams for a few days. Waiting patiently.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

The most of the population of Eagles is up and around Haines, Alaska. They have a wildlife state park on the road going to Anchorage and is worth the trip. I have done the trip.

Banana Thumbs up

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Snowing on the nest.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

I dunno what they were just eating, but it looked like a discarded plastic bag of fish bait. (Saw a tail sticking out of the bag). Would have been interesting to see that when dropped into nest.

The Eagle Nest Moderators think that plastic bag containing fish came from the Anacostia River, fishing is allowed on the river but not from the Arboretum shoreline. Hopefully the bag will blow away, be carried off or pushed down and not be a problem. Serves as a good reminder that we all need to properly dispose of trash. Still waiting patiently for egg-sitement. Fish

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Fish dinner! (Not bait)

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Just curious here, shouldn’t the DC Eagles already have a couple of eggs by now?

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

^ I thought so, too, but haven’t seen one yet. I wonder if the snowy, cold weather affects lay time

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

The other DC cam at the Police Academy has had one if not both eggs hatch recently. According to the nest monitors Mr. P and The First Lady have been mating and there is still time for egg laying thru early April as I understand. Still waiting and checking the cam.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Beach Fred

Thanks Beach Fred. I just saw her moving around and there it was, along with what looked like a small fish she was sitting on. Fish

Edit: Official time 4:30pm, welcome DC6

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Ooooo! Ooooo! There it is getting its bed fluffed by mom. How cool!

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

I think I figured out why TFL waited on laying the egg this year.
Anyone remember last year and it had snowed?
TFL was on the egg protecting it from the snow and MP was using his wings to cover and protect TFL.
This year they said, let’s wait for better weather Big grin

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

2nd egg today

Eagle eye Beach Fred, I totally missed it. Welcome DC7 at 2:46pm. Two times the fun Red heart Red heart

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Dang, Fred, you seem to be at the right place at the right time. I watch sporadically, but never get the moment. Did you see it laid? You are the egg whisperer.

I didn’t see it get laid, I saw the announcement on their Facebook page.
I find Eagles such amazing and beautiful birds that I’m hooked on checking on them often.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

A close up of mama bird repositioning eggs and then doing that cute little waddle to sit atop them and pulling nesting material alongside her body to block any undercarriage wind shear. Wow. So close you feel like you could pet her. Fascinating.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

Watched her/him call to mate to come help, and then mate flew in and took over warming eggs. Quite something.

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

There’s a whole fish in nest with mama!
Edit: ooooo, there’s a pip!

RE: DC Eagle Cam 2018

DC6 hatched today at 12:26 pm according to the AEF Event Log. Can't wait to see the fuzzy little darling.

Oh, good. I’m not talking to myself anymore. LOL.
Saw that, tilly, and I believe the other egg is pipping.
Thanks again for putting link up.
