I enjoyed staying here with my family. I would recommend it to anyone. The buildings are old, but everything is well maintained and very clean. I felt very comfortable here. We had a great vacation here.

This place is well kept up. Hard to believe that after so many years it is in such good shape. I think its well worth the price. Kept really clean and fresh. The staff are especially friendly. We've used this several times and have recommended it to many others.

this was the dirtiest hotel i have ever stayed at. When we first got there the room had a disgusting musty smell there were stains on the vinyl floor in the bathroom and the kitchen. We had the room with the kitchenette and i would not cook food for a convicted murderer on/in that stove. The bathroom was so small you could barley turn around, it had a stand up shower that i banged my elbows while showering. You are allowed only minimal ice from the machine, the pool is small and the owner was rude. If they had pictures on the internet of the rooms i would never have stayed there and once you give your credit card information you have to stay otherwise they charge you for the whole stay anyway. I was told (by the owner) that they pride themselves on being a family hotel but they forgot to say that it was was the bates family hotel. The whole place looks and smells dirty. do yourselves a favor and pay the extra money to get a room that you can and would actually cook in.

Nice, comfortable rooms. The place is supper clean. The rates are some of the best on the entire OBX. The employees are great. I would highly recommend this place. We stay here every year.

Operators of Tar Heel Motel (Mile Post 16) are friendly and have pride in their service. Each stay I found my room clean, comfortable and relaxing. They even have a outdoor heated pool. Also, fresh hot coffee in the morning at the office. Adjoining the Tar Heel is the Dune's Restaurant which I know has the best breakfast buffet on OBX.

I know several times each month there are people looking to find a nice motel on the Islands. Well, we added tacked three extra days on our vacation staying at the "Tarheel Motel" in Nags Head. It is located very close to Sam and Omies.

We have always been treated great there. The older couple that runs the place are jewels. But wanted to update one thing. People always wonder about how clean those old mom and pop places are. Well, the sweet little old lady came up to me our last afternoon and wanted me to come in the office. She proudly showed me there health department inspection. The health official was just finishing up. They got a 100 rating. He said it was the only place with that rating on the entire island! A perfect score. Can't get any cleaner than that.

So, if you want a great little place to stay that is proven the cleanest, this is the place! The tarheel Motel in Nags Head. They said the season had started out very slowly this year. Give them some business, lets keep these old places in business!

OK, first I must say that the Tarheel is obviously not a 5 star establisment by big city standards. However, the kind staff makes this tiny seaside hotel a gem. We have stayed here for a number of years. Normally, only for a few days when we are coming or leaving from a week on Ocracoke Island. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. The kind staff is always ready to help in any way they can.

Give them a visit, you will be pleased. Oh, and the pool is always warm and just steps from the ocean.
