Default Further Clarification needed....

...as I was in on that conversation also.

My concerns where specific to the tri-blade "Airplane Propeller" design WRT overhung load issues at the last support bearing prior to the prop itself, and the possibility of tossing a blade/failure of the shaft-bearing interface.

There are inherent safety issues in that design, due to what I mentioned above, but chiefly due to the fact that this design is uni-directional WRT wind direction, and could prove problematic in an environment where violent wind direction shifts are the norm.

Gyroscopic forces within the blade's rotational plane will resist vertical-axis changes of direction, perhaps violently. (Take the front wheel off any bike, hold the axle stationary and spin the wheel outer diameter to witness this effect.)

I said all that to say this: A Helical design would in my mind be better suited to this application, due to the fact that it has more bearing surfaces spread over a much longer axis with generators located at the bottom of the mast, is omni-directional WRT wind direction, and is less likely to fail catestrophically in normal windshifts or gale-force+ storms.

And last but not least, they're generally not as massive and/or butt-ugly.

Default Dap,

How do you feather that sucker in an extreme wind like you can with the standard propellor/Windmill?
But I did like this: Pier and Barbershop combination. Get too close to those blades and you get a free hair cut!

Mechanical brake on the input shaft, from what I can gather. Gotta be something similar on the tri-blade design as well, since there would be times you'd like it to stans still while you build/maintain it!

Yes they are, they have a grind stone attachment. (Walmart, $22.95) That way when electrical dermand is low you can mill some corn or grain. They also have a handy fine stone grinding wheel that is perfect for sharpening hooks.
They also offer a pump section if you want to dredge some sand and send it to your favorite beach nourishment project, but it was out of stock at Wally World.

(Yes, you're right, it's a wind generator.)
