Funnel Cakes

Ingredients List

1 1/4 cup flour
1/8 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup milk

Preparation Instructions

Mix all ingredients togeather, preheat oil in a 7" or 9" black skillet to 350 degrees. Using a small funnel drop about 1/2 of a cup of batter into the oil swirling it around to cover all oil in the pan. as soon as it turns golden brown gently turn funnel cake over. Fry till golden brown. Remove from oil and drain on a paper towel. Sprinkle with confectnors sugar!! Enjoy! Makes between 3 to 6 cakes!

Recipe Background

While I was growing up my parents belonged to Hopewell Fish and Game club and as a fund raiser the club would make funnel cakes at local carnivals and the York Co. PA Fiddlers convention. My mom developed the original recipe for thier funnel cakes. Using her recipe I down sized it till I got a managable amount for us to use at home!! Her recipe made approx 4 gallons of batter at a time!! Boy does making these bring back great memories!!
