After many years of driving past this place, daily, I stopped in to try it since I had not been there in 5-6 years. I was pleasantly surprised and had a fish meal I can't even remember the name of. It was really good. The next time I went my wife ordered a fish special and they substituted a chicken filet and did not tell her. I was a bit put off by that, they apologized and brought an inadequate replacement. We avoided it for some time and tried it again and again had a great meal. The next time, not so good. The consistency is not good, you can be pleased or disappointed. Once I got to watch a bar fight, that should tell you something.

Interior is painted nicely with lots to look at. Server was extremely friendly and efficient. We enjoyed the rockfish sandwich, a bacon cheeseburger and Mahi Mahi. Fries were great and prices were reasonable. Would definitely visit again.

During my vacation in October, I stopped at Goobays for lunch. The special was a Coconut Fish Sandwich, a fillet of Mahi with Coconut Shrimp Coating on a toasted bun with Mango Chutney. It was absolutely the best. If you see it on the menu again, try it. I also had a cup of delicious Hatteras Clam Chowder. Goombays is a great place to eat. I just wish they still had the Parmesean Crusted Scallops.

We ate here Saturday, August 31. Seared tuna appetizer was awesome. Wahoo with a bourbon/peach sauce, garlic mashed potatoes and steamed veggies, and tempura fried flounder with some sort of fruit sauce over rice . Both were absolutely delicious and beautiful presentation. The server was very knowlegeable. Prices were a little high but portions were large. Went back later in the week for a couple of Goombay Smashes.

The decor has been updated since my last visit, freshly painted with nice bright beachy colors, the inside really has a sort of underwater feel. The staff was friendly, the service quick and the food was fantastic all around. Would definitely recommend this place for a fun laid back atmosphere. Try the Goombay smash, excellent drink and you get to keep the cup!

Maybe it was an off night, but service was slow considering there were only two other groups in the restaurant. March 2012. The food was ok, but a bit overpriced. The kids drinks were neat, free toy animal and the drinks were unique, kids loved them. Overall, not the worst place we have eaten in the OBX, but not the best. Do not recommend the Jazzy Chicken with pineapple/sauce; the chicken/coconut was good, the pineapple/sauce was good, just not good together. Would give them a second chance if the parking lot was empty and had larger budget.

Had a great meal here last week. I don't remember what my boyfriend had but I had the Jazzy Chicken and it was awesome! We went for a late lunch when Jazzy chicken isn't available but the chef was kind enough to make it for me. Staff was friendly. Decor was interesting; took a couple of pictures.

Don't eat coconut shrimp!!! It's frozen, not fresh. For sure doesn't measure up to Outback Steakhouse's version. Also, dining room had some sort of fabric tacked to the ceiling. Looked like it has been there way, way too long. Very dusty. Made me uncomfortable having it above my plate of food. Ick Factor!

The food at Goombays is always good. We like the always changing specials, and the kid friendly atmosphere.

It is usually the first place we go for lunch, and we always go at least twice a week when we are there.

We ate at Goombays in June 2010 as well as June 2006 and it was good both times. We went this last time for my son's 11th birthday-his choice-he remembered it from 4 years ago. Good atmosphere, fun drinks for the kids (and adults). I like the coconut chicken, my husband had fish and chips and the kids had shrimp baskets.

We ate Goombays the first night we got to the beach because it was right there by us and it was real late. Surprised by how good the food was and we just got appetizer type of things..at there a couple of times that week and we will eat their again in July!

We found this place by asking locals...and it was a great place! Very kid friendly, everywhere they looked there as something new to look at. The food was great. My daughter got the steamed veggie plate and there was enough for her meal and everyone else to have steamed veggies. I got the coconut chicken ...refered by the waitress. She was right on the money it was a big portion and wonderful. I have already recommended it to others on the island and plan to go back next year!

After eating here for the first time in 2004 we have returned every trip to OBX. It is great food for the $$. Haven't had anything I didn't like. They know how to do seafood. It has never been overly crowded when we have gone.

We have visited the outer banks numerous years. Tried Goobays on a referral, will never go back!!!! The cook did not know how to cook fish. Service was poor. Portions were very small. This is one of the worst experiences I have had here, the other two are out of business now.

We first tried Goombays when looking for somewhere to eat 4 years ago. We decided to take a chance and try it out. What luck we had! We return every year...it's a must! We always get the jazzy coconut chicken....AMAZING!! They have fun drinks for kids, and for the adults, I recommend the Goombay Smash! Awesome!! We've never had any problems with service...fast and friendly!
