www.thehungrypelican.comNesting high above the Manteo waterfront, overlooking the docks and Shallow Bag Bay sits the Hungry Pelican. The Pelican was born in Manteo in 2002, but its roots go back over 25 years. The Hungry Pelican is an owner operated deli with over 47 years of combined restaurant experience. The owners have made over 500,000 sandwiches and have satisfied people from all over the country.
No expense is spared in bringing the best deli sandwich to the Outer Banks. We use Dietz and Watson Healthier Lifestyle meats which exceed USDA-FDA guidelines for deli meats. We have a cheese selection second to none and all of our soups and side dishes are homemade. All of our salads are made to order using vegetables that are cut daily and every salad dressing is made from scratch. All breads are baked to order to bring you the freshest sandwich possible.
The addition of our bakery with all of our desserts homemade, truly sets the Hungry Pelican apart from other restaurants. Our friendly and helpful staff will make sure that you have a pleasant dining experience.

There are 2 Hungry Pelican locations. One is on Rt. 64 in Manteo; that location has a grill and serves chicken, burgers, fries and other hot foods in addition to salads and cold cut sandwiches. The one on the Manteo Waterfront (above Poor Richard's) serves salads and cold cut sandwiches; they don't have a grill at that location. Both locations are casual; you order at the counter and they bring out your food.
We prefer the location of the Waterfront restaurant for the view, but the Rt. 64 location for the grill. Usually the grill wins out and then we make a trip over to the waterfront.
We have lunch at the grille location multiple times when we're at the Outer Banks.
