If this is real, it is A wonderful example of an originally bad idea getting wor$e.
Who could imagine the stupidity of having people pay to park on hwy12?
When do the Currytuck residents and taxpayers have the opportunity to comment on this? Again, if this is real and not fake news.

I see how so many of the people in the north had the attitude of so what I don't go to those beaches when the NPS was obliterating beach access 10 years ago when i see it happening up in Currituck.

Yes Alexy, agree. We didn't get much support from up north but ultimately made strides.
I take no pleasure in other's distress, and will lend full weight and support against implementation of this ill-conceived, poorly-considered, unenforceable permit effort by the special interests in currytuck county.
Should anyone in the know up there be able to direct us to a point of opposition, I will sign on and participate. Surfpainter?

This seems to be a done deal along with the new beach driving restrictions that forbid driving on the hardback sand from 9-5 in season.

This summer should be quite a show

BTW - Still no progress on providing air-down air- up locations before the end of the pavement.

So far there are no planned meetings for discussions regarding the new rules that I'm aware of. There is a closed FB page (Swan & Carova beach homeowners action) dedicated to the residents here. Lots of conversations going on that page. The commissioners seem to be making these new rules on the fly without any resident input. I'll keep you informed as the news trickles down.

Thanks Rick. I don't want to get ahead of residents' views, opinions and observations. Will follow with another PM. Best Regards.

“Scanlon said they may have to hire an additional employee to manage the applications” I think the NPS hired about ten employees for their permit system.
Are they going to require that you watch a seven minute video on beach driving to get your pass? Lol
I smell a fight brewing! If anybody needs a list of Congressional office numbers, I’m sure most of them we used are still holding office. (Yawn)
Also, can I bring the term “Draconian closures” back out yet?

Let us see if Jason Rylander applies some of his verbiage such as "But in the ORV free-for-all that was Cape Hatteras,
there was no place for them to go. Plover nesting all but ceased. Least tern chicks were run
over. Black skimmer populations declined and gull-billed terns disappeared from the
seashore entirely. " and "All this occurred because a rabid group of surf fishermen and associated businesses did not
want the Park Service to follow the law and regulate (not ban!) ORV use at certain times of
the year on portions of a 67-mile long beach to protect threatened species and enhance the
visitor experience for all users." If that happens.......be afraid......and use SPQ's words.....

Thats good for 10 days.. You don't need this if your going to visit anyone up there just if you park on the beach.
