My Father The Refugee

My cousin spent some time with my father and put together and nice article and video. We had talked about for a while, he hasn't been in good health and wanted to capture a little of his life's history before he passed. In a nutshell my father was a refugee from Hungary in 1956, he was part of the student uprising against the Russians, long story short he made it to Queens NY with my godfather and started working as a dishwasher and taking classes at night to learn English. To pay back the country who took him in he enlisted in the Army (101 Airborne) spent time in Germany and in Vietnam. He's an engineer by trade but has always been an artist. He's not a boater or a fisherman but he loves the outdoors and just walking in the woods or on a beach. Much of his art reflects this. As a kid I remember the story he told about meeting Eleanor Roosevelt and how she helped him get into the country. Somewhere in my parents house is a photo of him with her.

Thank you so much for this. I'm going to bookmark this thread so that I can come back to it, and your links, and spend more time reading and looking. I'm very much looking forward to this - so thank your father for me, and I thank you very much, too, Laszlo.
