You Gotta Love Dare County Property Tax Dept

They send me a bill for a utility trailer I own because it has a multiyear tag that does not renew each year. They can't collect tax on the trailer via yearly renewal.

The full tax due is $3.44. They included payment coupons to give me the option to send $0.57 each month for five months. The sixth month $0.59 will be due. It'll cost me a 55 cent stamp, envelope, and the amount due each month if I choose this option,

I wonder how much it'll cost Dare County to process and record my payment via monthly installments?

(They also included a Authorization Agreement For Automatic Deposits should I chose to have them debit my checking account each month)

I'm going to send the full amount that's due.

A computer program did all that. A poorly written one at that. It should have had a minimum threshold for auto mailing. Maybe it did and they just set it to low? Most likely, it wasn't in the design specs because it's hard to design something that seems like common sense. Someone, yearly, should figure out the minimum and set it. Anything below gets reviewed.

Disclaimer: I'm a programmer going way back, now a manager and hating it.

My bank owes me $25 because I had forgotten about a payment I made and I closed the account before it had processed. They have no ability to handle them owing me money so instead I get a "bill" in the mail, monthly, for an amount due of $0 and an outstanding balance of -$25. I'm a programmer and these things make me chuckle. If this bank made it easier to reach a human via phone or chat I'd have clued them in already.

Same here but my numbers are even smaller! (It's a small trailer I put together that I tow behind my Harley for camping).
Of course it'd be silly to do the monthly option, but like another poster said it's the computer that just calculated the forms and mailed them out. I've already paid in full.

Now my House taxes? It gets to wait until late December!

LOL I see your point …. However I must throw in a big Yea to the H2o and Tax people. I pay 99% of my bills via my bank (PNC) bill pay and last year I sent $4K to the Water Dept. instead of Tax Dept. well a few days later I checked and caught it. I called the water Dept. and the lady knew of the mistake and went ahead a moved the money over to the Tax dept. and while I was on the phone she called them to make sure my taxes were paid. So a big shout out to our humans who are there to fix dumb stuff that I do.... Thumbs up

Agreed. Anytime I've had the need to do business with Dare County & Town Gov. personnel they have always been friendly & helpful.

Yep, we had some billing or paying snafu with the Dare Co Water Dept, and once I visited in person, it was taken care of 'like that'. No muss, no fuss, very much of a relief. For the $3.44 bill, it probably just gets batched with other small bill payments and sent to (or just mailed to) a processing center for quick, low cost processing.

That's a tribute of a story! We too, like others here, have had only helpful interactions with the good people that work in the county's tax and water department. Definitely is a huge plus to have thoughtful and helpful people working there.
