Looking to do a trip October 12th. It's been a few years since I've done a boat trip, but I've only done them April/May for yellowfin, September for whatever is biting, and winter for ocean stripers. I called up my regular guy who does nearshore/inshore and he said Amberjack were scarce this year and he recommended an inshore trip for stripers.
So, what are your thoughts on mid-October? What can one expect for inshore stripers? Looking online it looks like they are smaller in the sound and about the size I catch inadvertently bass fishing here in inland NC. No thanks. I'd be all for striper fishing, but for those ocean running giants which I know we can't expect at that time.
Ideally a nearshore/inshore trip for meat fish would be superb. In the past with my regular guy we caught tiles, even trolled and picked up some mahi and wahoo. The only deal with him and tiles is that he uses electric which I'm OK with ONLY if I'm worn out from Amberjack first. I recall on here that you do not use electric which I'd prefer if bottom/wreck fishing is the only thing to do at that time.
Anyway, any insight you can give on expectations and trip recommendations would be much appreciated. Also, how is your availability that time of year?
