What bait to use for big reds surf mid Nov

I'm in Wilmington and last week caught plenty of finger mullet in the surf. Today I saw none. So I used cut bluefish. But I go to Cape Lookout for a couple days in mid November, camping. What can I count on to work? I can bring frozen mullet and shrimp, but is there a better but guaranteed bait sourceeither there or to bring with me? I can't count always on catching bait in the surf, I guess. Thanks!

I believe everyone uses large chunks of mullet. Fresh is always better than frozen, but frozen still catches. You can't rely on catching bait everyday, they move wherever they want. As far as bait source, I can't help.

Hit your local bait shop for mullet. As it gets colder the fish tend to go deeper and it is harder for recs to get to spots where they are so it is easier to just rely on the shops for a fresh source. I always found i was either spending the evening before or the morning I should be fishing trying to find bait when I tried to get it for myself.

Fresh mullet is best, another alternative, but not as good is bunker (menhaden.)
