A few people in my small town wanted to try to light up our city park for Christmas. They started a few years ago with workshops to make bulbs to hang in some trees in the park, and it was nice. They decided to host a 5K and a few other fundraisers, they had more workshops to make bulbs, and it got bigger. And bigger. Now they have those bulbs in most of the big trees lining the park and across the street by the river, there are many light displays around the park, all of the huge trees in the park are decorated, and the four sidewalks that cut through the park and meet in the middle are lined with normal sized Christmas trees that are each donated and decorated by local organizations, schools, groups, families, and businesses. On weekend nights, the local churches take turns doing a live nativity, some with animals some without, and caroling at one end of the park.
We went to the lighting ceremony this year, and it was amazing for this little town. The park is a block long and wide (square?) and is at the center of our town, and it was packed with so many people it was almost overwhelming. A few speeches were given and then there was a huge fireworks display as the lights started coming on. It was like a scene from a Hallmark movie or something, just really cool to be a part of.
My husband is planning to take the drone down and shoot a video of it, but he hasn't had a chance yet. This is a link to someone's video (not mine) of the lights this year. I hope you enjoy it!
