Sunday sound fishing report

I was supposed to go offshore on the Sea Toy this past Sunday but I have a touch of vertigo and decided the smart move would be to keep my feet on solid ground. I tried fishing the surf Sunday morning without have any luck, one hit and that was it. I went wading in the sound and ended up catching 68 trout, 7 of them were 23" +, 1 small flounder, 1 really nice drum and the biggest mullet I've ever seen. All caught on the outing going tide between 8:00 and 11:00. The only reasoning I stopped was because my rod broke. I ended up buying a sweet St. Croix from TW's. All of the pictures are on my phone. I'll post them shortly. That was my best fishing day ever on the Banks.

Very Nice. Reports I'm getting from my Reel Repair customers is that it's great. Wading, Kayak and Boat. Lots of small Trout with some keepers. Kitty Hawk Bay was hot about 10 days ago. In the cuts (boat) all along the main channel from Pirates Cove to OIFC. North side of Inlet West of Oregin Inlet Bridge. Quite a few small Flounder there, but FYI Flounder Season opens on August 15th

I was wading by the bridge. I bet I didn't move more then 25' from my original spot. They were stacked up in the cut. I'll be back down in a few weeks to try again. And I won't leave my stringer in my truck this time.

Always great to hear a good fishing report. When you catch so many the rod broke. Doesn't get any better than that!!!

I started out a salmon colored one but switched over to the white bass assassin. I started catching them as soon as I changed over. I did see a guy in a kayak throwing a chartreuse twister tail that was doing ok, but not nearly as good as the white. I did have to change it out because they were hitting it hard and tore it up. PM me and I'll give you the location.

White, Pearl with green tail, and many bright green bass assassin's have been doing great lately. Glad you caught them. I went out Sunday morning in the Roanoke sound and got 22 trout in about 1 hour by boat. I really nice class of fish on Sunday with an easy limit if fish over 18 inches.

Soundside trout bite in Frisco has been exceptional. Limited out in 16 minutes.

I'm keeping an eye on the weather for this weekend. I'm dying to get back on the bite after the way I was catching them 2 weeks ago.

If you don't mind, Is this the saltwater bass assassin, or the freshwater version? What size jig are you using with these?

The salt water I believe. The jig head is a 3/8. I'll post a picture of it.

I am throwing various saltwater assasins of the 4 inch shad body variety and using a 1/4 oz jighead. Really liking the z-man trout eye jigheads.

It's funny when I rigged it the correct way I was getting short strikes. Once I turned it over they were all over it. Makes no sense but it worked.

Have any of you been finding worms in the sea trout?

When I was in Florida, the trout almost always had worms in them. I stopped keeping them, catch and release only. I have not kept any since I moved to Chesapeake, so I cannot comment about them here.

I have heard that they are not harmful to people, but I do not like the visual.
