Effective today for a pair of oystercatchers. There haven't been any plovers yet this year, I think they finally gave up and found a new phantom bird.

Oystercatchers are classified as LEAST CONCERN, but I guess the NPS needs a reason to kill the economy now that the Banks have reopened....

I hope the Oystercatchers are practicing social distancing, and wearing masks.

They have to keep us serfs in check and remind us who’s in charge.

This is why we pushed so hard for adaptive access from the new parking area behind the campground off the inside road (old ramp 45). For times like this; ramp 44 is impassible (either due to birds, erosion, weather, etc.), the access via the parking lot could be temporarily opened through a marked corridor to the Point. This adaptive approach was denied; I understand it was to placate the enviros who "would have a cow" if access was granted to the hook.

One has to wonder if future generations will watch as the NPS prohibits human activity to save the fire ant, the starlings, the murder hornet, africanized bees, the grackle, kudzu, mayflies....

Whatever the excuse. It will be used by the envirowhack's legal arm. the SELC. to file suit against "the people".

" This adaptive approach was denied; I understand it was to placate the enviros who "would have a cow" if access was granted to the hook."..........
Agree!...That area is designated as "VFA", And if the Supt, puts a Corridor in place, the Enviros would have More than a Cow!

the adaptive management approach was offered during the negotiations on the 2nd interim plan in 2008, the Final Plan in 2010 and the review of the Final Plan in 2015. It was rejected by NPS each time. The VFA does not prevent it, the VFA designation is the result of a poor plan. The plan is reviewed (open to Public Comment) every five years, happening in the Fall this year. This WILL be brought up again during the review in 2020 with this specific example of why it is necessary.

sorry dawiggs, a lot of what came before has been lost to history and to previous members who fought the fight, and still do. The post was intended for the uninformed, certainly not you. Thanks for your contributions and support.

Thanks for pointing THAT out! I so enjoy biographies and the history of our country. It’s fascinating!

Warning: Off Topic- I stumbled on a neat book on the W.A. Clark family this winter. Who?!? The Copper King.
