NCDot has erected barricades to prevent access to the catwalk on the north side of the bridge. Too many accidents caused by people crossing the highway to/from the parking lot. Look for even bigger crowds fishing from the south side.

When I read the OBX Today story I had to make a trip this morning to see the closure for myself. I was working in Manteo when the pedestrian crossing was installed and could not believe NCDOT could come up with such a dangerous solution to the problem. If NCDOT wanted to create a safe way to cross 5 lanes of 50+MPH highway they should have put in a traffic light like installed at Jockeys Ridge.

They took a page out of the NPS playbook and managed the park with a padlock.
