Any trailer campers out there and I don't just mean on the OBX. I bought a new pickup and think I want to get a trailer for next year. I am thinking of doing seasonal camping in NW Jersey. I would leave the trailer there all year. This is something completely new to me and I know I have a bit to learn.It would just be for myself and my two dogs with my grandkids coming once in a while. Is it best to get one a few years old or spend a little more for a new one. I don't want to get one too small and regret it. What do you think would be a good size. Anyone know any good groups where I could get information from people who actually do this style of camping. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have owned a RV. My advice BEFORE you buy is to learn all you can. Watch U-Tube videos. Some good ones are "Keep Your Daydream" and "Long Long Honeymoon". The vast majority of RV's are cheaply made and require ongoing maintenance. Also, after you buy the RV, you need to buy additional equipment. You'll learn about what equipment by watching those videos I mentioned. Especially the ones for "Newbies". Most RVs don't come with owner's manuals. Before you take delivery of a new RV, make sure you have a thorough, detailed orientation to by the seller. Then there's the tow vehicle to consider. Your tow vehicle must be rated to tow the weight of the RV and any equipment you load into it. Make sure you understand this. It's important. Many, many people love RVing. Just educate yourself, BEFORE you buy.

We are picking up our travel trailer next week. We are 2 seniors with two 30 lb dogs. No grandkids. Ours is 27' long. That is the length measured from the tip of the trailer coupler to the back of the trailer. 27' is the limit of my comfort zone towing a trailer. At 27' we were able to get everything on our wish list: decent sized dry bath, U-shaped dinette located in a slide, sofa with queen size Murphy bed, and outside galley with mini frig located left of the cooktop. With the slide in we can still walk to the bath should we need to use it while on the road.

We found if you want a specific manufacturer and floorplan like we did demand might be out pacing the supply for new in NC right now. We could have found just about anything we might have wanted if we were willing to travel out of state. Hopefully NJ is better.

You can save money buying used. Beware of existing roof leaks showing up as stains and mold on the ceiling & walls. Soft spots in the floor likely caused buy plumbing leaks. A search of UTube you will find videos showings some water damage repair costs far exceed the value of the trailer.

A new pickup? How much is its tow limit? Leaving the trailer parked all year could allow you to buy a bigger trailer since you don't have to worry about towing it from place to place. If your trailer is beyond your trucks capacity, delivery by a hauler is available. We are having ours delivered from Raleigh because our truck is new and will not be broken in for towing by next week. We will drive the truck on delivery day so the dealer can install & setup the weight distributing hitch for our truck/trailer specifics.

There are KOA camp grounds all over the country. Click to follow link... Rivers and larger creeks usually have camp ground around them in different places. There is even a camp ground in a park in a smallish city close to me, and it is free as far as I know. With a creek running by the campground and they even have a disk golf course in the park. Just do a search for camp ground and you should find places close to you.

The truck is a F150 with the 3.5 Eco boost rated to 10,500 lbs but I would not pull anything that heavy. It would be my two 60 lb dogs and my two girls who are 12 and 14. I don't think my grandson would be interested as he is a full blown 16 year old teenager now thinking about getting his own license. If I get one I would probably leave it in a campground in northern NJ year round taking it out when I wanted to take a trip somewhere. I don't want anything too big , just enough for four with a slide out. Not sure when it will happen. I'm not sure if it will happen soon as I have 4 trips to Hatteras reserved for next year and am planning to take my daughter and grandkids to Ireland next August too depending on the Covid situation. It's something I would like to try though.

I purchased great extension tow mirrors from Amazon that really helped. They very easily snapped onto my existing mirrors and were very secure. No vibration or shifting. They were perfect. They were "Fit System Snap and Zap Tow Mirror Pair". Cost $56.92.
