Name your top 5 fish to eat and catch on any charter in OBX. Not that this is going to change my mind on any charter. I am just curious as seafood is my favorite food as grew up on the Chesapeake bay.

Oh, I didn't see Eat and CATCH. THAT WOULD CHANGE A FEW STANDINGS. Actually, some of the best eating fish are not the best Fighting Fish. I think I value Taste or Edibility over Catching. Just Sayin.

As too catching, the big sport fish is where its at, sails, marlin, also the action can get good with the Mahi on light tackle especially the bigger bulls. I cannot eat fish but like the big water fishing, my granddaughter caught her first blue marlin two years ago 2 hour fight whopped her butt, the smiles on her face will never be forgotten, on the way in we stopped for tiles caught a few it was O.K. but not like the trolling. Any time on the ocean fishing is a good time.

This is a really hard one, for the type of fishing I normally do (surf and sound) here's a top five in no particular order:
Spanish mackerel
bluefish (caught that day)
sea mullet
puppy drum (grilled is the bomb)
flounder

For offshore fish
dolphin
wahoo
blackfin/yellowfin tuna
triggerfish

Surprised no one mentioned Pompano or Puffers. I love both. For taste and nostalgia a big plate of fried Spot is hard to beat.

What Pickle said about eating and catching being two different beasts.

In no particular order...

Catching...
Amberjack at the towers on spinning gear
Puppy drum from the surf on a medium spinning rig
Anything bigger than 30lbs trolling offshore
Chunking for dolphin offshore on spinning gear
Even a skate on light tackle in the surf puts up a good fight

Consuming...
Tilefish
Speckled trout
Yellowfin tuna
Grouper
Wahoo
Spanish
Flounder
Puppy drum

Puffers aka Blowfish and Blowtoads (local) are great eating. Somebody mentioned Norhern Puffer which is technically the most correct name. I think they were not mentioned much is that they are somewhat seasonal. But I think the bigger reason is nobody wants to take the time to clean them. People are also reluctant to try "new" things. Then you have the very big misconception that they are poisonous or toxic. Not so and the subject of a whole new discussion. Pompano, great eating but way more common on Hatteras than above Oregon Inlet. Furthermore generally not available but for a few months.

I saw mullet on your list Alexy. I assume you were referring to "sea mullet." "Jumping mullet," that gets used for bait a lot is tasty in its own right. Farther south on the coast, charcoaled mullet is considered a delicacy.
