Jheeze Louise! I'd of thought the numbers would have been higher here. I wonder what the numbers are for our vacationers and NRPO's primary residence? Keep wearing those mask folks! Big grin

Dare's doing pretty well! NC average is 33% for full vaccinations. It's got one of the highest percentages in the state, actually. Not bad!

Is that 47% of total population, or of adults? If it’s total population, that’s pretty good since children can’t be vaccinated at this time.

Whaler Here,
I am a NRPO, but have spent more time here at OBX, than at home over the last six months. We got our first Moderna Vaccine on Feb. 5th second on Mar 5th.
I cannot say enough about how organize, efficient the Nurses and Volunteers were when we recieved both vaccine shots.
We were in and out of the rec center in Kitty Hawk in 30 minutes, including the 15 minute wait after the shot.
I am confident the vaccines work and protect you from the Covid 19 virus.
Over the Easter holidays we were exposed to a person that got very sick for 10 days. After we found out they had contracted the Covid 19 Virus, 7 days later we were tested for Covid and results were NEGATIVE.
Go get vaccinated folks, they work.

I was surprised it was that high so I looked a little closer...........
Is the math correct? 14,142 fully vaccinated out of 35,652 (2010 Census) would be 39.6% wouldn't it?

Did they include non resident property owners that they vaccinated? That would help explain the 106% in Avon.....

Yes, they are including the non resident property owners in their statistics . We live in Virginia, but own a home in Frisco, and I had the J and J shot in Kitty Hawk at the rec center. I registered online with the info given, and received a call the next morning Easter week to come to the Kitty Hawk rec center that Saturday. Very very organized event. Two days after receiving the shot, the government started the pause on J and J and needless to say I was wiggling out a bit, but so far so good. Been four weeks now so I feel that I am in the clear. It is quite liberating to have received the shot. I'm in my early 60's and Virginia has been quite slow about getting to my age group, so I thought I would give it a try in Dare County while we were down there renovating. I have no underlying conditions and Virginia was slow to get to my cohort. Wonderful people at the rec center.

They are not including non residents in their number of residents, but they are comparing the number of shots they give to that number. You are right NC distribution was much better than in VA in terms of just getting shots in arms.
My 80yo parents would have waited for 2 more months in RVA if they hadn't driven to Currituck for their shots.

Edited to say that the number of actual residents vaccinated could be lower because of NRPOs who got their shots here. Other localities look like 35% is typical.

Yep. The number of jabs given (including NRPOs?) was divided into the Dare County population provided by the 2010 US Census for each zip code / village. This provided a percent jabbed in each village - which they took the average of and reported as the actual percentage for Dare County......makes no sense and I am looking forward to the explanation offered by the DHHS and The Outer Banks Voice on Monday.

Why didn't the DHHS use readily available 2019 US Census data showing a population increase greater than 9%?
Why didn't they include the readily available data indicating the number of NRPOs that were given the vaccine?

Makes one wonder why The Outer Banks Voice would report DHHS information without vetting or checking the math.
This is an excellent local example of why there is so little trust in the media. Why the misleading storyline and data presentation? This was not an anonymous post from Facebook or Twitter but a newspaper article that some people accept as gospel without questioning.

Does this mean that more than 60% of Dare County residents have not been vaccinated? Maybe this is why NC is considering "incentives" to participate in the vaccination effort......
