Awsome. We were in Yellowstone a few years ago, but didn't have time to go over to the Teton's. This was as close as we got.

Thanks, Laszlo.

Haven't been there in a long time. Hiked up to a lake with snow and ice water in the summer months many years ago. Jenny Lake, maybe?

Probably much warmer now, with no snow.

We were there at Jackson Hole when Jackson Hole was little more than a stop light, post office, and grocery store. No confabs back then.

Thanks for sharing Laszlo. Its a beautiful place.

I proposed to my wife on a four day back country hike up in the Tetons. We started at the Granite Canyon trailhead and I proposed on a cliff beside Marion Lake. It was over July 4th week and we still needed ice ax and crampons. One of the best hikes of my life!

Possum stew is better than coon stew don't you think?

Yes, we tent camped the entire trip (3 weeks total) except for the night we hiked out of the Tetons and the few nights we slept in the back of my truck. We got a hotel room in Jackson Hole as a newly engaged couple, had a great meal at a little Italian restaurant, and watched fireworks over Jackson Hole before we drove straight through back to PA. On that trip we did two weeks of tent camping in Yellowstone along Slough Creek and on various back county hikes.

My wife and I laugh that I first needed to determine if she could handle 2.5 weeks of hiking, camping, bathing in creeks, and eating freeze dried food before I would propose to her. All I can say is that she passed and is definitely a keeper...LOL

How times have changed, two kids later and our last hiking adventure was to Sedona where we stayed at the Enchantment. I guess we have gotten a little soft in our "somewhat" older age!

Hats off to you and your wife! Sounds like a great time, but I'm sure it took a lot of prep and planning. Coyotes are everywhere now, it seems, and that has put a damper on my camping (for a couple of decades now!). At least that's the excuse. Used to do year-around camping.

Closest my wife and I came to your experience was a 3 day/night canoe trip on the Saco River in Maine in a September, camping on the sandbars. My wife is a city girl. We cooked.

Same feeling as you had: great time, but don't know that we'll do it again. Got eaten alive by mosquitos! Spent a few days later at a rustic camp at Moosehead Lake in Maine. Not sure I could convince my wife or kids to do either similar now.

Did you have mosquito or animal issues?

We tried to be hyper aware of our surroundings while in the back country. Not sure if it was us or just luck, but we did not have any negative encounters with animals. In Yellowstone we had come across numerous bison and we made certain to give them PLENTY of room. Also saw a few bears. While fishing we always were looking over our shoulder.

No mosquito issues, but we did have to deal with black flies while fishing for cutthroat at the second meadow on Slough Creek.

A coworker is back in the office today from a two week trip in Yellowstone. I told him like I tell everyone who goes to Yellowstone...get off the beaten path if you can because it is so worth it.

Funny, My wife and I are going up to Maine (Ogunquit) and New Hampshire Meredith and Jackson next week. Everyone complains about the mosquitos in the Outer Banks. I've never had them worse when we go to Maine and New Hampshire in the summer. Them and the black flies which draw blood are horrible

Enjoy your trip. Sounds like a good one!

Everything is relative. Mosquitos and crowds, to traffic and storms...it all depends on what you are accustomed.

Thanks, Fossilridge!

Mosquitos at night were the biggest issue for us in the Tetons. Not so much while we were hiking. Saco River in Maine, though, was nasty, day and night.

Black bear decided to investigate our picnic table in Yellowstone one morning. We observed from inside the car. No harm, but a good scare, especially for my city girl friend!

I liked the "quaking" aspens on the trails. Stunning and beautiful.

What were the aspens like while you were there, Fossilridge?

Did you go up the Going-to-the Sun Road in Montana?

Yup, mosquitos in Maine are the worst! Practically a carpet of mosquitos on your exposed skin. Much worse than OBX.

Ogunquit was always an oddity. Nice beach, but the water was way too cold. Everybody was on the beach, nobody was in the water. Made no sense, except the LL Bean store nearby.

Have you been up to Mt. Washington, Laszlo?

Our first time in Ogunquit was this past May, and I did go in the water until I turned blue Lol. The water was cold and crystal clear. Funny thing about the beach there, when the tide is out beach is Huge, when you have high tide their is zero beach Lol. We have been up to Mt Washington three times. Hiked, took the van up once and three years ago we took the snowcat up. Lots of trails around the area to hike. My son before Peace Corps and before moving to DC climbed Cathedral Ledge a few times. We have skied the area a half dozen time.

Have you been to Nansen Ski? Neat place, you can climb to the top.

Drone video from May. I got there at 7AM, it was 35F and I was getting bite by black flies LOL

Cool video, Laszlo!

I don't ski, and haven't been to Nansen. Where is that near?

Had a bad skiing experience as a kid, and swore I would never do it again. And I haven't.

Have been to the Lake Placid ski jump, and their bobsled run. We actually did the bobsled run for the lower half of the run. Not sure if they are still doing that.

At Ogunquit several times decades ago, but did not enjoy it. See and be seen sort of thing, I guess. Not to swim.

Similar experience in Provincetown, MA. Beautiful beaches, but water was way too cold. That prompted us to look elsewhere for warmer water, and we stumbled on OBX.

I've been up Mt. Washington probably at least a half dozen times. Several by cog, several by car, once by hiking with an overnight stay at Lakes of the Clouds hut (highly recommended). Almost stayed at the Mt. Washington Hotel, but didn't quite pull the trigger. Maybe if I live long enough!

When you went up by snowcat, was that a winter trip?

Not familiar with Cathedral Ledge, but it looks like it is in Conway, NH, at the head of the Saco River?

Been in Conway many times. Did the train ride.

Our Saco canoe trip started just over the border in Maine. Don't remember the name of the town, but it was just east of a hydroelectric dam/plant. Had a great time, despite the mosquitos!

Water level in the Saco is apparently controlled for hydroelectric purposes. Quite shallow and warm when we were there, which was right after Labor Day.

The Nansen ski jump is in Milan NH, about 50 miles north of Conway on Rt 16

Yes the snowcat was in the Winter. We lucked out the day we went up. It was very cold be crystal clear. You could see the coast.

"Snowcoach" Link... Click to follow link...

Cathedral Ledge is just to the west of North Conway about 2 miles. You can missed it. Diana's Baths is also near there in Bartlett. Its a very easy one mile hike

Were the buildings open at the summit at that time of the year?

Sorry for the late rely. We are in Jackson right now. In the winter the snow coach only goes about 2/3's of the way up. I forget the name of the bend they stop and turn around. If they went farther they would probably been blow off the side of the mountain. They weather station has a crew up there 365, they have large snow cats for getting up and down. Today at the summit it was 23F with winds 67-79mph. At the base of the auto road it was a nice 63F. The auto road is open to tree line which is about 4200ft

I'll post some photos when I get a chance

No problem, Laszlo. Would love to see some pics when you have a chance.

Just brought up our Lake in the Clouds hut visit to my hiking companion. She remembers it vividly, and fondly!

Looks like the Cog has evolved since I was last on it. No diesel then.

We had dinner a few miles away from the Mt. Washington Hotel, on the road to it. Can't find it now. Was okay then. Do you know the restaurant?
