Fishing in the sloughs south of ramp 55 with plastics catching flounder (12-18") the past few days. I saw a few 16" blues caught on cut bait. Lots of folks setting out half a dozen rod, heavers and big drum rigs......I haven't seen anyone catch any. Fish

I’ve only been sound fishing up in NH and the water temps increased a lot in the past 2 weeks. Puppy drum are thick and I’ve caught small trout (15”). I would expect the Pamlico to be at least the same.

Tuesday was my first surf fishing day in months and I caught a skate. I check all of the tackle shop reports on the island and up this way on Facebook daily. They have all been reporting puppy drum pretty much everywhere now with some small trout up this way and I’ve seen puffers and sharks still on the island.

A couple of fishermen and their wives were next to us today on ramp 49 and had caught over 40 puffers, croaker, and Whiting. Wife was frying fish on the beach for them. So cool!!! They were having a ball.

Today I caught 8 drum from the sound in NH, all small, largest about 17”, and a handful of small (12”) trout. Yesterday it was like I was living in a fishing show. I went out after work and was on the water at 6:00. It started slow, but then I got into a school of large pups. Caught 6 from 26”-30” in 45 mins. It was epic. I could see the school disrupting the water as they moved, one drum even struck the cork of my popping cork before it took the grub.

Puffers are called sugar toads up here. They're some of the first fish to show up in the spring and very good to eat. A bit tricky at first to learn how to clean but well worth it.

You're right, Greg! My brother calls the puffers "chicken of the sea." We caught a few two years ago and got online as to how to clean them, and surprisingly, it wasn't difficult. Watched a YouTube on it and very simple. They were delicious!
