First rental unit review!!

Off to a good start with our first rental here at the Mustang Galley! Already hosting new guests and they are great people.

NOW, noone has said anything about it yet but there is one thing about our unit that I HATE and WILL NOT stand. Even Captain Obvious couldn't miss this one. A previous owner decided that a window A/C unit would look fabulous as a show piece on the mantle. Serious smiley Serious smiley Serious smiley ... and my attempts to distract from it with an abundance of Chachkis is not working. The shelves need books and a more simple, clean look.

I THINK I have found a tasteful solution to this eye sore....

The solution....this hardware package for 36.99 from Amazon. I can sand and paint 1x6 boards and create a louvered façade over it that I think would look nice, with enough room for a center piece perhaps? I'm thinking of a quality black high gloss oil paint. It will fill in the entire space between the book shelves.

Congrats, BF! Yes...use the wood pieces to cover the ac unit or some type of sea grass mesh. That'll do it!

I think that would be a clean look when you first walk in from this perspective.

Also if anyone knows where the heck I can get curtain lights that just run steady and don't default to epileptic seizure inducing mode every time they are switched off I'd be eternally grateful. I have these on a dawn till dusk sensor so every time they come back on it's like funky town on the Guest deck! Then I have to run down and page through each mode on each string of lights to get it to stop. ...I always have this image of my guests downstairs popping and locking against their will. lol

If you want, take down the strings of all of the lights and only put up one that stretches along horizontally across the top. Home depot and other places sell them and the light is very bright at night. We have one that is only an 18 light LED string made only for the outside. I actually found it at Kroger. Edison type bulbs and it is sooo bright at night. Just a plug in type thing and not on a timer. It may make it less severe.

This is what we have and it's just what we want to be able to see at night under the house. Take your other ones and decorate on some other places which will be pretty.

Yes, it's actually a great machine, very quiet, powerful. The first floor Apt is always cool, even with the unit off. I think the A/C from upstairs makes it's way down. It's never hot down there.

I like it. I was considering Bahama style shutters for my covered deck. I might rethink that now.

I think these will look just as good if not better and will be definitely more durable for an outdoor application. Got the hardware yesterday. I just need to sneak in there between guests. I'll let you know how it works out and post some picks.

BF: I saw those louvered slats on the entire underside....first floor....of a home in my Frisco neighborhood. They look great. A lot more expensive of course instead of having boards just flat and nailed across, but the look is fantastic. It gives it such a modern look and you really cannot see through them but can feel the breeze of course. That is a good choice to cover your AC. Almost like a mid century modern look. Send pics when done.

Just a thought...paint the framing around the unit to match your wall color. Nothing else on that wall is the light wood (that I can see anyway.) Add a few apothecary and biscuit jars filled with shells and beach treasures. Keep the vents unobstructed. House looks amazing!
