Hatteras sound access

I'm looking for some more spots to launch a kayak from and I see a road that goes around the Coast Guard station in Hatteras. The sound there is showing tire tracks. Is this all NPS accessible to the public?

It is NPS property and accessible to the public IF you have a beach driving permit. I have been told that there was some severe erosion at that location in the spring and the beach is not what it used to be, so you might have to be careful at high tide. I have not been there yet this year, so I only have second hand information.

Thanks, we have the permit. If the erosion is too much to safely park I think we could leave the truck in the museum's lot or the beach lot at ramp 55 and walk back over. We have several launch points we already know and a few new we've scoped out, but this spot caught my eye as one to consider especially if there's a stiff wind from the NE as Durant Point sticks out into the sound a bit.
