Kayak and wade fishing

Has anyone been kayak or wade fishing in the sound since last week's blow? Anyone catching? I've been the past 4 days up in Nags Head and it's been kind of slow. I had a good trout bite yesterday, but all small in the 16-17" range. Had a decent day with flounder on Saturday with the largest two being 19" and just shy of 21" plus a few dinks on Sunday. I thought I had found the flounder hole, but that's dried up or it fishes best with a different wind direction. I'm thinking of heading south tomorrow to somewhere on Hatteras.

I fished the sound along the Tri-Villages off and on from Saturday to Monday. Action was definitely not hot and heavy, but my buddy and I scored on a number of flounder and big mullet. Also picked up a couple drum and way to many lizard fish. Also got one sea robin. Not a single trout to our surprise.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. So it sounds a bit like it's been up this way, but it'll be a change of scenery at least. I'm a bit burnt out on where I've been fishing by the Little Bridge. The wind Saturday-Monday had me locked into a small area protected from the waves.

Ocean's East didn't have a 3' cast net in stock yesterday so I was forced to throw a 6' from a yak and to my surprise I can throw it seated. It's not pretty, it's a bit of a struggle, and the opening isn't 100% full, but it works. I'm going to live line finger mullet behind the boat while fishing another bait in case something hungry cruises by. I tried this yesterday and nothing hit on top, but I fished some live with 1oz egg sinker on the bottom and had a couple of whacks, but just enough to mangle the mullet and not get the hook.

Went to Buxton today. Trout bite was good. I caught about a dozen with the largest four being 18, 18, 19, and 22. The rest were in the 15-17 range. Stepdad caught a half dozen or so with the largest at 18. I also lost a big one in the mid 20’s. Line cut on his teeth I assume when he jumped at boat while I was reaching for my net. Also caught a lizard, a pinfish (very large one) and a small drum. The wind was righteous!
