Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum

We went to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum yesterday for the first time. For those unfamiliar, it's all the way down Rt 12 just past the Hatteras ferry docks. It's not huge or overwhelming, and the admission is free (there is a donation box). If you're interested at all in local maritime history, check it out sometime. We saw actual artifacts from Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge, and a German U-boat (U-85) that was sunk off Nags Head during WWII, among many other cool pieces and displays. Good job to the folks who built it and run it!

I went for the first time in October of '21 and loved it. The coin collection was extraordinary and the linen fishing line and line dryer made me really appreciate all of my fishing gear, even the few cheapo reels I have that always act up at the worst time.

There are plans to expand the museum in the future.

Last winter, we were lucky enough to find three wrecks uncovered by weather on the beach. One is close to the museum, south.
